Hello ladys and gentlemen, I am a Driver located in California. I have just been told that because a company paid for my Medical exam, that they (the office I took the physical at) would NOT give me a copy of the medical report. I did pass and got my 2 years.

I had a falling out with the company and no longer work there.

I know it is a small matter to just go take a new exam and get my own copy. It just feels like this may be important for me to know for the future.

Is this accurate? A company pays for the exam so you as the patient are not entitled to a copy of the results? I feel like this is a very wrong practice.

    Thank you for any information.

In 1974, Keyline laid me off due a recession. I therefore leased to Refrigerated Transport, but Keyline wanted me to stay qualified and sent me for a physical although I was not working for them. I needed a physical for Refrigerated. I ended up paying for the same physical Keyline paid for, in order to get a copy for Refrigerated.

I always got a long copy for myself and the medical facility sent a copy to the company.
Your old company must have something worked out with the facility to not give the drivers anything but the card.

Thank you, I have taken a few DoT physicals and this was a first time I have ever been denied a copy of my medical before.

Just felt like I should ask to be prepared for some thing like this to happen later on.

I would check and see if they filed it with DMV and you have a valid medical onfile, especially since they kept it. If you need one, there are plenty of cheap places to get one.

I usually make sure my name is on the line and PAY the cash for the exam. that way whoever owns the clinic and doctor etc etc no longer matters.

They ask me who is my employer (At orientation etc) I tell em, just me a walk in for refreshing of the Longform DOT exam.

If they dug in heels and have a problem with it, Im not going to be able to finish orientation with that company which sent me to the clinic. That's ok, there are thousands of trucking companies out there.
