Pardon my ignorance but if you have high blood sugar from diabetes can't you just eat something sweet and it will lower?

Not trying to pick a fight but with the upcoming sleep apnea rules. (yes the FMCSA is currently in the rule making process) With more and more companies going to the physical exertion exercises as part of the physical I would not count on being able to move your current physical for much longer. 90% of passing a DOT physical is simply eating correctly. Honestly I am not really happy sharing the roads with a heart attack or stroke waiting to happen while driving a 80,000 pound missile. If you have health maladies see your physician and follow their advice. If you are eating right and following your physician's instructions there is no reason to fear any DOT physical.

Umm... eating sweets with high blood sugar is the last thing you want to do. For many thats on of the reasons for having diabetes, eating too mby sweets, or drinking too much sugar laden drinks like pop and sweet tea.

I drink water and Diet Green Tea. Close to 6 years ago I was told I was prediabetic and needed to change my eating habits. I don't eat much candy, don't add sugar to anything, so I had to figure out why my blood sugar was so high. Anything that uses honey as a sweetener is a problem, read the fine print on the label. I now mix 1/2 a diet green tea with 1/2 unsweetened tea, my blood sugar is now on the lower side of normal. Look at the labels of anything you drink/eat. If you are eating white bread, switch to wheat, the whiter the bread the more sugar they use.

Diabetes is hereditary... both my parents have it. So, I really watch my diet. The last thing I want to do is take maintenance medicine.

One of the hardest part of trucking for me is the food.... I pack so much food on my truck that it seems like a waste of space but I'd rather pack food than drugs or clothes in multiple sizes in case I get fat!

Exercise helps a lot too! OP good luck with your DOT...

I asked because my grandma's neighbor has diabetes and one time she was getting weak and started sweating. My grandmother gave her a teaspoon of sugar and she was fine in a few minutes.

Yes you are absolutely correct. Diabetes control can be a balancing act. I am also a diabetic and take 4 shots a day. I take 15 units of Lantus every night before bed and 5 units of Insulin aspart (Novolog Flexpen) before every meal. If I don't eat enough my blood sugar will drop and I start to sweat some. However I don't eat sugar or processed sugar. What I do is eat a package of Lance cheese crackers. I am also an epileptic who has had his drivers license suspended, and my CDL is history. Actually I have PTE.

Then that lady was having a low blood sugar episode. Then in that situation yes. But a typical type 2 diabetic wants to minimize their sugar intake as much as possible
