Can I downshift while skipping gears? For example when I'm in 13 and flip the splitter to go to 12, can I leave the splitter in low and downshift to 10, 8 ,6? Or do I have to split each gear when downshifting?

Yes. As long as your rpms are in the right range.

Just the way you described is fine, I do this often when light or empty.

If you don't split all you are doing is shifting a 9sp. Really a 13 is just a 9 where split the high side. An 18 is a 9 where where you can split the low and high side.

When I first started it was a big ole pain to skip like that without grinding so I split them all now I barely every split on the down shift but always on the up shift

I seldom split on a downshift. For me it's easier to drop a whole gear at a time.

Splitting on a downshift is make work. Edit... you are not trying to cross Impossible Hill...

    Take a whole gear.

The answer I was looking for! I thought we had to split on every single downshift but it would be a pain, might as well just use lo range and just drop whole gears. I am a little confused on matching the RPM's though as I tested in a 10 speed. It seems as if it's one number lower eg: 10 speed: 1+5 = 6 gear (15mph), 2+5= 7 (25 mph) gear, but in a 13 speed from what I have been observing is 1+5=5th gear (15mph) and 2+ 5 = 6 (25 mph). Also what is the purpose of the hi/lo range selector? I seen in some videos where when you upshift to lo (5th gear) pre-select it to hi range on 5th, release the throttle and immediately reapply the throttle so 5th hi can kick in. Is there a specific RPM we have to meet for the hi/lo range selector?

Do not pre select SPLITS. If splitting say from 8L to 8H move the splitter forward and immediately let off so it drops in. For dropping half a gear do the same, break torque and blip the throttle up 200 she'll fall right in
