Driver backing while talking on cell phone

Discussion in 'Experienced Truckers' Advice' started by gentleroger, Jul 5, 2018.

You watch a "driver" backing into while talking on a handheld phone. Do you call his company?

Maybe he was talking to someone who was spotting him. Maybe?

On private property it’s not illegal to do.

That said, try not to be too surprised when your first option is met with some colorful language.

    Agreed.

I'm almost always on my phone talking to someone at any given time or place. Be it getting fuel, going down the interstate or backing into a slot at the truck stop. I could be on ordering some KFC and be on the phone with a broker the entire time I was in the store.

If someone were stupid enough to voice his/her opinion about how I conduct my business and make my money while backing into a slot,.. I would most certainly have some 'choice' (Colorful) words to say.

I guess that is a side effect of driving a 62 mph truck it gives you time to see what everyone else is doing wrong so you can call there company and tell on them ....... .. mind your own business and you won't be minding mine

I second the ones saying, "As long as he didn't cause an issue." I, unfortunately, use my phone a lot. Bluetooth batteries. I have to use it more often than I'd like, and many times I've used it doing some very fun meanuvers.

Personally the phone doesn't distract me. I don't ever text while truck is in any gear other than N and the parking brake is on. It just doesn't distract me, I don't see with my ears or mouth. You can turn a steering wheel with one hand, you don't always need two. Especially for backing.

STORYTIME! I wonder if it was you...
Boss calls me while I'm loading, said there's been a direct complaint I'm using my cellphone and driving. "What? I've been here 2 hours." Oh... It was when I was backing up some retard wanted to wait until I started moving to walk behind me. Then act like I didn't see him; frankly I didn't, I was looking on my other mirror to make sure I was clearing the truck on my left. He was on my right. He then yelled "GET OFF THE PHONE." Idiot.

I probably wouldn't say anything. I might film it happening but would delete the video if nothing happened, or maybe post it if there were a close call and I thought it might be of interest to my audience.

I'm more into filming the drivers out on the road actively illegally driving while holding their phones. I have so many videos of it but decided to only release them once a month on the 14th of every month and the series will be called (Insert Month) Phoneteenth. So far I have about 9 months covered going into next year.

My goal would be to have this series end because drivers would have finally switched over to legal headsets for talking on the phones handsfree. People hate on my 'snitch' videos, but I believe in raising awareness for safety. Too many people are still dying needlessly every day due to distracted driving.

If you truly believe in raising awareness for safety then why not use your channel for advocating for stronger training standards? Why not try and inform your audience just how easy it is to get your CDL permit and then be “trained” by a mega carrier? I know, probably won’t get as many views as someone “breaking the law”. God how did we all survive when it was legal to hold your phone a few years ago? It’s a wonder we didn’t die.

How did you people ever survive before those crack pipes got attached to your ear?

Bring on the EMP to kill all cell phones!
