You get paid. That excludes it from being a hobby

That's like a prostitute saying she isn't charging for sex. She's charging for the time spent with the guy.

    Doesn't fly there either.

The videos make you money so therefore making the videos is compensated work.

you guys make a valid point. but what about drivers that dont want to be recorded regardless of making $$? whatever it is its for noobs that what to get into the industry. for all we know hes scaring them off. some of us that choose this job for the open road and solitude that comes with it thats being violated . if one wants to put his face on social media then this person has no problems with driver facing camera. but what about those that do have a problem with it>? do we have any rights?

For instance, the company made me sign a whole bunch of papers about it. when i got home i was thinking hey i dont drive perfect all the time. i dont think anybody does. i know i will have to eat and drive one day. i know i will get phone calls/txt msgs from brokers and dispatchers. i know there will be drunk drivers at the night. i know there will be other drivers using there phones and not paying attention causing me to hard brake or swere into another lane. all of this will be recorded and i will be penalized for it and i signed for it knowing this. this is why when they called me to pick up a load, i declined. i realized this isnt what i signed up for because this is the nature of the job. a professional driver is what its is, we recongize a problem and compensate for it. it wont be pretty but why get penalize for it if we can avoid an accident.

from far as i can tell, all trucks have a black box. combine that with highway facing cams, this info of the driver should be enough. vehicle telemetry can be read off of it just like any other device thats on a transportation vehicle like airplanes, trains and busses. as far as i can tell those operators sleep in a hotel or in there own home after there shift. why video record on OTR driver that live in a truck on top of that with audio? most trucks dont have apu, most trucks have to remain idle during our 10 hr break. guess what that in dash camera is recording something even your conversations on the phone. why is this legal?

i strongly think and ill have to agree based on the facts that a driver facing camera in some instance can save the driver in an accident only if the driver is a robot. but if you are human, its there to hang us even at no fault. because a defense lawyer will find away. god know how much trouble i got out of because my defense lawyer knew somebody that knew somebody that was able to pull some strings back in my younger days . i just had to ask on the forums of other people if they feelt the same way.

There are still plenty of companies out there with forward facing cameras only and some with no cameras at all. Go with one of those. My company didn't have any at all.... Seems as of late I am hearing of more companies with forward facing cameras only and rightly so, they are having problems getting drivers..shame shame.

All depends on Safety being picky and nosy. I rode with one for two years and was broight into the office once for lane departure while using mobile device. It was the day after Valentine's day and i think my safety guy had a late night cause he was very short with me. He pulled up the vid and said "Should you be doing that!? I said "Nope" and that was that. The cam would record critical events all the time. Wether I hit a pothole, hard brake, hard turn but was never asked about it. I had my cell on a mount from the windshield and would use it all the time to look a addresses and trucks tops in route. Just be smart about it, I would use it with nobody around me or infront of me. Don't be watching a movie like i see all the time when passing guys. My company ended up getting rid of them anyways

    Compensated by whom?

What about drivers who go to a fish tournament and catch the biggest fish and win grand prize cash? Is that compensation so therefore they must log On Duty ? LOL

Yeah I wrote that little blurb in 2 minutes and it goes out on every video automatically when they upload. The income from that is passive, meaning it is doing its thing 24 hours a day whether I am awake or asleep. It has zero fatiguing effect on me.
