I just turned down another job. They wanted driver with atleast 2+ year OTR experience. No tickets. no accidents. No recent fires for drug test refusals/failures, DOT violations, basically spotless record. Everything was good, newer trucks, autos, volvo 780, inverter, fridge, microwave, tv, runs only southeast, .50cpm, 5 days out 2days back, no holding week pay. Everything seemed good. told me everything i wanted to hear. except I had to ask if it had cab cameras. said yes like its no big deal. says his drivers dont reallly complain about it. I said no thx. Just sounds like a way to ruin a perfect driver record. or turn one into a slave so he/she cant go anywhere else.
UturnGirl, Midnightrider909, DSK333 and 1 other person Thank this. -
Making YouTube videos is non transportation-related work, but it is not work for a motor carrier. Which, if you read what you wrote, is what that particular guidance refers to.scottied67 Thanks this. -
As a concession I told you I could log on duty while editing them. Takes all of 5-10 minutes of my time.
How are we going to prove I logged on duty while editing? Perhaps a driver facing camera? Are you certain you want to slide down this slippery slope? -
@Antinomian I think he meant this.
DSK333 Thanks this. -
The distinction is that no one pays me to make these videos. I upload them and in partnership with google we split the advertising proceeds from the views generated. Not unlike investing in the stock market during my 30 minute break and next week selling 1000 shares of whatever stock and realizing a profit. No reasonable person would require a person to be On Duty for that activity.

If it truly was a hobby you wouldn’t care about views, you would put the word out about issues this industry has that are greater than people talking on their phones. But you won’t, because you want the views. I’m assuming to get the ad dollars. You’re acting like you’re going to save the industry from driver facing cameras, you’re more likely to get people to think we need to be restricted to the right lane only when you’re basically a rolling roadblock in the center lane going slower than the flow of traffic.DSK333 Thanks this. -
