Ya know what? Give the man some ideas. I get really tactical when using bits of ideas to make something happen. Hello Dispatch! Yea I have ideal company here wanting 500 do unload, can you pay em. Yes fine. TY.

    Runs around back counting coup.

Food service isn't a job to have to pay lumpers. You make real good money unloading at stops,

    x1Heavy and u4icwargasm Thank this.

DOT Foods often came to my school to recruit. They pay drivers a set amount per article of freight when unloading. Their routes are also involve multiple stops. Will say they have really nice equipment and are 100% Auto Transmissions. Watkins & Shepherd also pay their drivers to handle freight - although that may have changed since being bought out by Schneider. Heard from a W&S driver there are a lot of unpopular changes being made since they were bought out.

I did a mail run to Atlanta
Bulk magazines to a Post office
The driver had to pallet jack the heavy pallets off and up a ramp.
The shipper would write 75 dollars for driver unload on the bol
My company would pay me 15 and keep 60 for themselves
I told my dispatcher to never give me that load again
    He never did.

free spirited1 and baha Thank this.

When I hauled fuel we were primarily an oil company. I'd take a dry van up to Chevron to pick up a load of packaged oil and drums on pallets-about 24 pallets a load I think. I'd take the trailer back to the yard and spend the rest of the day taking a pallet to the back on a floor jack then climbing out and offloading it with a forklift. Then repeat. I made $25 and hour then $37.50 after 8. Go with a local fuel jobber :)
