About the author copied from the article.

Alec Costerus is President of Colorado-based Aerodyne Transportation, LLC, an over-the-road long-haul trucking company hauling freight throughout North America

Can I assume his company pays overtime?

One of the reasons I left my last job (which was a local job) was the fact that they did not pay overtime. The expensive health insurance was another reason.

Good question. There's no law keeping him from paying overtime or as much pay as he wants.
Does he follow his own advice; I doubt it.

So I couldn’t find a website for them. It appears to me they are a branch of Aerodyne Technologies, with power units only, and leased on to Landstar Inway.
That’s the dots I connected but I could be wrong.

Aerodyne Transportation is a Colorado-based over-the-road long-haul owner-operator motor carrier leased to Landstar Inway.

Aerodyne Transportation is the experimental vehicle testing branch of Aerodyne Technology. In doing so, the company transports truckload dry freight to all corners of North America.
The company operates reliable, late model, California ARB-compliant Volvo tractors pulling our own or customers' trailing equipment on a dedicated or for-hire basis. The company's advanced technology equipment allows for industry-leading fuel economy for a more sustainable, environmentally sound, and financially profitable business.
Due to our pioneering spirit and technological advantages, the company is sought after by over-the-road industry manufacturers and product suppliers for their confidential product evaluation, testing, and continued development.

Sounds like they are more interested in saving fuel and the polar bears than anything else.

I turned down a job because they didn't pay overtime and wanted 50-60 hours a week of work. It started at 27/hr.

How would one figure overtime with a pay by the mile scheme?

Anything over 2,000 miles a week gets paid at base x 1.5?
