Let me see if I understand... He fails to deliver, gives away product that his customer would have sold, and Western called him big hearted and gives him his job back. Shame on Western for knuckling under to anti-social media
wouldn't the right thing have been to reschedule and deliver the load? sounds like theft to me. or is that pre-facebook thinking? gofundme page? what the hell...
Personally.... I said it before. If I were in that situation. I would have sold the wood. Given the money to the Shipper. That's the only earnest thing to do.
One problem with your thought, we don't own the car go we only own the right to deliver it somebody else owns the cargo it's their decision. Rescheduling would have made sense, I guarantee in the face of a hurricane, Home Depot would have made an open Bay to receive that plywood.
This was an emergency situation. The dispatch had rescheduled. After the hurricane. That doesn't do the people in the community any good. The original article said the manager was there. Walked away. Ignored the truck. This requires comprehensive, wise thinking. Not sacrificing people's lives to the cookie cutter of 'own the right' of anything. Man does not exist for the law. The Law exists for mankind. Follow the intent, the spirit of the law. Ignoring this results in chaos. He would never have gotten fired if he turned over money to the company to be turned over to the shipper. Most likely would have gathered far more than Home Depot was paying for it. Without gouging anybody.
It's theft, plain and simple. Go fund him for what?!? As Willie Wonka once said: "You get nothing! You lose! Good day.
Original report said the cops were there. They even helped. You must know better. The cops should have arrested him instead? I do admit. I doubt the honesty of him, or that facebook post by his relative. Got a go fund me page? For what? I doubt the whole truth is being told. While Western Express is having to give in to the whiners. I stay with my stance. Should have sold the wood and turned the money over to the shipper.
Just because a cop commits theft doesn't make it legal, or right. If there were cops there helping to commit theft, they should be charged too. And don't give me this about saving lives.... Give me one plausible scenario where the theft of this plywood would have saved lives. Remember, at the time of the theft there was planty of time to evacuate.
