I don't see how it would be possible to operate a COMMERCIAL motor vehicle without the proper work visa. Besides, no one in the DOT, IRS, INS, etc. would ever believe you when you told them that you were working for free. They would naturally assume that you were just being paid under the table, which would open up a whole new set of problems for you if you are not authorized to work in this country. Also, an insurance company would never cover a person who was not an employee of the company who's vehicle you would be operating. This is a bad idea on so many levels.

I don't believe that an international license works here. The only foreign drivers that I have seen (besides immigrants) are Canadians. But they are driving Canadian based trucks and not one from the US.

I thought an american was put in the truck with a canadian at the border because they cant drive over 20mph due to the ice roads.. Good luck to them getting out of the bottom box ;)

This is a dangerous, illegal idea. International licences are nothing but a piece of toilet paper.

I don't need more inexperienced fools out here threatening my safety for the purpose of sightseeing.

I'm an immigrant. Naturalised citizen. Do it legally, and safely - or stay out of the country.

Lots of drivers are working for free. Their companies don't pay them for all miles driven. They don't pay detention time. Some sit for days waiting for a load.

Yep, lots of "free" labor out there.
