Driving for swift

I have been with Swift for over 8 years. My hours are mine to run, and no one questions how I do things.
Mind you, taking a 34 if you still have 20 hours to work with probably won't be tolerated.

I like to run recaps, because I am lazy. Too many long days just to sit for a day and a half or more is not to my liking. Averaging 9-11 hour days (all things included) is to my liking.


But the bottom line is this...
You have to set your limits, and your line.
You decide what you do, and when, because you are the sole person responsible for the safe operation of your truck.

 

Dry, and strictly OTR.

 

I should caution you.
I seem to have had pretty good luck with my driver managers with Swift. Many drivers do not have the same experiences I have had.
Maybe it is something I am doing, or something those other drivers were doing, but...

 

If I had been out for 6-7 weeks and I told my DM that I was getting too tired and I simply wanted a 34 to reset my hours and myself, none of them would have refused me. They would have set my PTA to whatever I wanted.

 

34's is optional take them if it benefits you.

I don't think any company is allowed to say no you cannot take a 34. You might want to move on to someone else.

There is a certain degree o f micromanaging going on in this entire industry these days. The Dispatches, bless them are insecure and need hand holding in addition to kissing which is something that is pretty outrageous. The best ones you ever will find is you deliver this load next friday and call me when empty. Get going yer late already.

 

I'm fairly confident it's what you're doing … I didn't find anyone at Swift that I couldn't get along with.

 

I have heard some companies are control freaks. Particularly with new drivers. I'm fortunate and don't get that treatment. Varying opinions about reseting, I can only speak for myself. There are times I reset even when not required. Sometimes I like to kick back, restock my truck, laundry, etc.
