Driving on shoulder I-5

    I don't do it under hardly any circumstances. You get guys who are doing the half a mile an hour faster than you passing you in the slow lane if you are on the shoulder. Then you come around a blind curve, find someone on the shoulder, and have no choice but to stop. Then you are in the circumstance of getting moving, loaded heavy, uphill, with no space to accelerate without jumping straight onto the freeway on a blind curve.

    I think you're better off to hold the right lane, hazards on, CB warning that you're slow, and seatbelt firmly on.

    There's plenty of warning signs about slow vehicles - but I see your courtesy point.

    If you're empty you might get away with it. You see on road construction the base course is thinning towards the edge of the pavement. The wider it is the less it will hold. Unless it's specially constructed for that kind of traffic.
