It doesn't matter before or after having a cdl, it's still part of his driving record. A cdl doesn't just make everything u done before disappear, it follows you.
There's some company that will hired you, but you're now limited

Of course it doesn't. No one suggested it did. But tickets like that carry greater consequences for a CDL holder.

Outside of truck and/or load abandonment which is a serious no no these other things while serious can be fixed. Time! Time! Time! Get a job with the best training company that will hire you. Plenty will. Drive your butt off and rebuild your safe driving record. You will be surprised how fast the time goes and at some point other doors will open up. You have got to be safe and pay attention to what you are doing.

Thank you all.
I'm going to try in get contact with some people to help pay for the class. I suppose if I can't, I can try applying to Schneider's sponsored CDL training. I know they work with a well regarded school not too far from here.

Are the chances better of going to a private school and getting a Class A cdl or going through Company training to get a cdl?
I applied to Celadon Driving Academy, Prime Student Driver training and Stevens Transport. Prime and Stevens said that the only issue they had was that I did not have 2-3 years employment under my belt. (I was laid off in 2013 and unemployed for around three years until my current job). Celadon didn't seem to have a problem with that.
But now I'm wondering if I should go through private training. If I go through private training and get my Class A (already have a Class B) will I still face an issue for not having the 2-3 years of employment?
Sorry for asking about all this but, I'm wondering what would be a better option for getting into trucking... -
@Kimberly Hopkins - Private training gives you more options as to companies to choose. The state will probably pay for it through the unemployment office. Ask about grants and the WIA program; the unemployment office can help with this.
Call a decent company such as Abilene Motor Express in Richmond and ask if they will hire you if you graduate from cdl school and if the ticket or unemployment period will prevent them from hiring you.
If this doesn't work, then Celadon is an option to take.

Bit of an old thread but an update:
Applied for the WIOA program to get schooling paid for, got approved so I'll be going to a truck driving program at a local community college in 2 weeks.
Reading over the drivers handbook to refresh my memory. Bit excited and nervous. Not sure how comfortable I'll be handling driving a manual transmission.
I do feel like this could be the perfect industry for me since I enjoy traveling and even just driving in general, plus I'm not tied down by family (I guess a good and bad thing?). I mean I even own a truck sim game that I've played a ton (even before I thought about getting a CDL).Last edited: Oct 13, 2016
