I picked up a cheap laptop full size without DVD player or CD thing for $189 at Office Max couple years back. Still going strong even after accidently falling off top bunk one day while driving.

I'm gonna try going a different direction here. @tmb0507, do you have a lot of dvd's? Do you carry them with you, or grab a few whenever you're home?
-
Pretty big difference between a net book and a laptop. Traditional laptops will always have a way to install software. Netbooks look like laptops but generally don't have the storage capacity of a laptop and are made for web surfing, email, and maybe even some video chat.
My to recommendations for an actual laptop.
Acer
MSI
Asus
Toshiba
Even an Alienware which is now owned by Dell.
If you want a performance based laptop then
Asus ROG
Lenovo
Acer
Dell XPS(guaranteed disputed)
Alienware
Cyber power
Razer has a really nice one now.

1- I adore the "REAL laptops have a DVD drive" comment. Sure they do. And back in my day we had to send messages by horse and it was BETTER! REAL messages are carried by a horse courier.
2- why a laptop? Get a $110 24" tv at Costco, a $40 blu ray player off amazon that has wifi capability and a $40 200-300w inverter if you don't already have that. Way better for watching DVD/blu ray and streaming video if you get the player that connects to wifi.
3- buying a cheap $200 laptop from bestbuy is silly. I've a 2010 MacBook Pro that I bought off eBay for $300 in 2013, added a SSD and maxed out ram for another $200 and that laptop will run laps around any junk from Best Buy and last for another 3 years.dedrouteCO Thanks this. -
I knew you did,lol
-
of course it'll last you another 3 years, most likely you don't do anything with it other than search the internet, check email, watch cat/dog videos. Doubtful you do anything that would cause you to need an actual laptop. Only about 30% of laptop owners even use theirs for more than the above stated.
-
Buying cheap wasn't silly for me. I didn't need anything expensive.
Watch dvd, do logbook, print log book, surf the internet, watch netflix. Download porn and burn to dvd. And an occasional cell phone wipe to load some cooked rom on it.
My cheapo did everything i needed it to do. One is 4 years old. The other is 2 years old. Both still work. -
Toshiba no longer makes laptops. I learned this when I bought my Lenovo.
-
Now that you said that I render reading that Toshiba was getting out of the laptop business. Sucks to, they made some really good laptops
-
I thought Toshiba had the best. my mouse didn't jump all over the place when typing like other brands have been doing.
I have a Lenovo all in one. Worst brand I've ever owned.
