I have a 17 inch laptop, bought this year. No optical drive. Instead I have two gtx 1070s in SLI. Not all laptops have optical drives. But it's still a popular format. It's more common to have ODs on media consumption laptops.

You can get networks with slim drives too.

However if my laptop had a disc drive like y'all have all mentioned this wouldn't be an issue lol

What about going digital? Would you be okay with watching your content on your laptop, or maybe a tablet? What kind of memory do you have on it? From what I've gathered, you can hold several movies on 32GB. You could download content before your trip, or when you can stop somewhere that has free WiFi. Or maybe if you could get phone service with unlimited data, then use your phone as a hotspot for your laptop? Just a suggestion, I'm not sure if that would fit your needs. As I said, I'm a big fan of Vudu and Netflix.

It's $35/mo for a T-Mobile hot spot with 6gb of data that can be used for anything. And binge on for unlimited streaming from Netflix, Hulu, amazon... a whole lot of others actually.
