Run it. Burn tanks down to 1/4 and top them off with fresh. Go another 1/2 and top off again. Should be diluted by then. The dye doesn’t seperate from the fuel and leave residue.
About 2008ish. They were dipping pickup tanks at MATS in KY, and farm science review. Parked on state property your fair game.
I had orange colored fuel for a while once. The engine seemed to be making oil very slowly. We put a fuel/oil dye from NAPA in the tanks to see if we could find if and where the fuel was mixing into the oil. Turned it bright orange. Under the black light it looked lime green. Pulled the truck into the shop head first instead of the usual back in. Check the stick and it was right on the full line. Hmmm. Hold on. Turned it around and backed in. Checked it again and almost an 1/8 above full line. Duh! Sloped floor! When I changed oil it was head in and full. A week later backed in and overfull! Lol! There was my fuel leak. Lol!
They say never say never. I've had my tanks checked twice since 1994. Last time was at scale coming east into denver. It's a roll of the dice to run with it. I'd drain it if it was me.
But it cannot be seen with a dip tube on the second or third tank. Run it out and keep your fuel recepts.
Lol, one of the reasons I changed my DOT registered name to take the word "farm" off. Couldn't go past a scale or inspection station for love or money, and got dipped several times a year. Couple of times they did not trust their eyes and sent it to the lab for double check. Now, we're not "farm" anymore, and much smoother sailing.... But unless you have reason to believe you might be inspected or if you're not on ELD, I'd go with advice above. With an ELD and fuel receipts it's much easier to document a legal fuel strategy.
Id just use it... Run as low as you dare before next fill up so most of it goes through the engine the rest will dilute out inside a week of hard running. Ive never seen a big truck dipped... But I have seen several hotshot pickups dipped at scales.
I will be draining it out. I've got Farms on the side as well. Hasn't been issue before, but ya never know. I appreciate the comments
