If you like driving fast just say it. Don't try to convince me that in some magical way it's safer.

I don't have anywhere to go so I'll humor you.

Just a couple days ago i was running down a highway and a farm tractor came out on my right trying to merge onto the highway which drew my attention as i drove by then i looked forward noticing i was rapidly approaching a 4 wheeler driving about 55 in a 65. So i check my left side and put er in the hammer lane real quick and then i do a quick scan of the gauges and look up to realize I'm rapidly approaching another farm tractor in the hammer lane doing 15mph with no turns in sight so there's no reason for him to be there. I start to apply the brakes and check my right side quickly determining it's safe to get back in the right lane and i miss the tractor by about 20 feet which isn't much when you got a 50mph speed difference between you.

Disturbing the flow of traffic is dangerous. I know you want to prove your point here and your going to twist it however you can think of to make it look like you want it to, but going unreasonably slow in unreasonable places is inexplicably dangerous.

You could be right Mattbnr. You could also be dead right! If you get your jollies seeing how p/o'd you can make the drivers behind you, one day you're likely to p/o the wrong driver or just be unfortunate enough to brake check a less skilled or observant driver than you expect --- and then your heirs can collect whatever you might collect for being dead right. If you want to see for yourself how these things manifest themselves, be sure to check out the next 2 NASCAR races, paying particular attention to Brad Keslowski.

I guess if anything above 55 is considered fast, then yes, i like driving "fast". What i like even more, however, is going about the same speed as everyone else. Sometimes that is 50, sometimes 60, sometimes 70. I don't like being the fastest or the slowest.

So you switched lanes and instead of looking ahead to see if the lane you switched to was clear you looked at your gauges first?

What would of been wrong with holding your lane and just applying the brakes a little?

I think you'd probably need to ask the driver of the farm tractor in the hammer lane what might have been wrong with that. Maybe when and if he came out of his coma, he could tell you!

I wouldn't have thought this was something that takes 40 years of trucking to learn. I guess we all learn at different speeds...

ELOG's are the way to go. I easily run 3000+ miles a week and NEVER get hung out 20 minutes from home. I NEVER have a problem with running out out of hours and I am always on time for deliveries. My OPINION (for what its worth)...is my driver manager and the load planners do a much better job of planning. They never have to call and ask how many hours I have left or if I can make it...Again, my OPINION is the drivers that are most opposed to ELOG's are the drivers that know NOTHING about them and are probably still using a flip-phone. Those who admittedly cheat on thier logs run a HUGE risk of losing everything if they have that "unthinkable accident" happen (and it happens everyday to drivers) and thier logs are not legal. Looking legal and actually being legal are two different things. It is very easy for a group of anti-big truck lawyers to figure it out. if you need to run like a wildman to make a living maybe you're working for the wrong company...My family means much more to me than TRYING to make an extra buck at the end of the week, because I gaurantee there isn't a difference in pay. ELOG's are the future, paper logs are thing of the past.
