Actually, paper logs can be verified. Fuel receipts, BOL's and toll receipts can be checked for accuracy against a log by DOT.

Yes pLogs can be verified but not to the exact level of detail an eLog can. Not all receipts have a time stamp on them.

The argument seems to be, does Elogs force common sense. If you do not have the ability to make safe, sound decisions elogs are not going to improve your judgement.

If you spend 12 hours loading and then jump behind the wheel, because you have proven your a liar by logging loading a off duty, you can not argue that this makes you safe driving for 700 miles as fast as you can. This whole statement is showing bad judgement.

There are ways to lie and cheat any system, I just hope when it catches up with you, you don't kill or injure anyone. It will catch up, sometime, somewhere.

Biggest differences for your education that I will add to some previous posts that were good:

    1) I have one truck, if I screw up and wreck it I'm out of business and will generate ZERO revenue until it's fixed or replaced. I know and understand this so I'd like to think that makes me a little safer than the company guy
    2) I run under my own authority, if I have a wreck and hurt someone besides the point I made in #1 I'm going to be in deep poo legally and financially if I'm in the wrong
    3) Being that #1 and 2 are a fact AND that I have a spotless safety record, then yes, I think I should be able "to do what I want" as you put it or at least not be held to the same standards as the numb nuts at the mega fleets that probably have 50 trucks with no driver sitting at their yard as spares, an army of lawyers and a corporation to hide behind.

So a small local business like a grocery store shouldn't be held to the same standards as the large chain stores like walmart?
You have a strange way of thinking. A business is a business. Trucking is no different. I don't know at what point truckers think they should be exempt from all rules. You are a business. Not a person.

WTF do groceries and Walmart have to do with this? Try another analogy, one that actually makes sense.

"a business is a business" ... yeah ... don't forget the big ones with all the money pay hardly any taxes and all the little ones with much less money pay a lot more in taxes ...
