    I have a few questions.
-What are you guys doing to work with customers directly? Seems like it would be nearly impossible to get your foot in somewhere that an already established company hauls into.
-Do contracts prohibit any other company’s to bring in the same type of material? For a 1 truck O/O would I be able to haul the same material to the same customer or would their contract not allow it?
-How would you find new materials to haul local to you and is there any way to make a customer base easier to find as well? For example Fertilizer filler how could I find plants that produce it and how would I go about finding customers that are buying it as well? Seems like most everything is just word of mouth. Thanks in advance

I guess it depends where you are. In my city, everything was basically a mafia run by 2 different guys. If you worked for one the other refused to work with you. It was impossible to get direct clients unless you advertise and a homeowner or small business calls you.

That’s what I’m worried about I currently work for a company and they can get loads in almost any state they want to but they have almost 100 trucks and are the primary haulers out of 2 of the mines that I’m 30 minutes down the road from so I don’t think I’d be able to haul out of there for that reason. Seems almost impossible for someone to able to get something up and going when they have to deal with that unless you under bid them but then again almost 100 trucks vs 1 there is no way.

In my city even though there were the 2 guys, you could also work for the quarry itself. It was nothing on paper you could just show up and get work from them. You wouldn’t even know where you were going until you got the weight ticket. 3 of the 5 quarries did this.

Lastly you could maybe chat with companies that are small time, like pool installers.

This is basically how you get started. These customers will never be a priority for the large fleets. Find some who are getting jerked around by the big guys, and sell them on the fact that they can be your priority.

Some brokers, like PT Brokers use End Dumps in some states, at least get foot in door if you had too.
