Lol, companies so cheap these days, probably didn’t pay for drivers background check on onboarding going off HazMat endorsement, TSA word, then put the driver to a dedicated route.. so they lessen the weekly lag time to the client but paid the driver same.. if the driver with a dry van either “waited less no hazmat” or took the “extra run with hazmat on forced route”.. ultimately when the math of either scenario comes out in the check, it’s same pay.. driver just worked hard spent more time made same dollar… carriers are funny with all the tricks… at this rate in the industry, shop rates so high, might as well manage a bay at a shop where former drivers the only one with a CDL.

Jokingly the Million plus miler driver with all the endorsements says, I used to do like 600 miles a day, 5-6 days a week for $30 an hour… but now all I do is just drive the truck across the shop parking lot for like $40 an hour and go home everyday off all weekend 5days, 6th day time & half.

Note that most of the better-paying CDL jobs require both hazmat & tanker, or....even all 3 -- hazmat, doubles/triples...& tanker.

More endorsements = more potential opportunities = mo' money

:Transportation cost :Transportation cost :Transportation cost

Endorsements don't add pay but they increase possibilities that might pay better.

Without them. You're limited to single trailer freight only.

As for a one time fee.

You have to pay each time at license renewal. Or don't get the Endorsement renewed.

My motorcycle, tankers, doubles, ALL require $8 per Endorsement every 5 years license renewal. That's an extra $24.

Hazmat is too expensive since the govt added the extra BS. I dropped mine last year since I never used it. But the hazmat jobs are the better paying jobs.

Get all of the endorsements you can including haz. Learn all you can and become an asset to the company. This will in time and with the right company give you a lot of extra pay and increased flexibility. Also, when you encounter problems or break downs, don’t just sit there and do nothing, try to work the problem and come up with helpful solutions. After all, you are the front line boots on the ground that can make the most impact while working with folks back in the office.

These types of things make you stand out and be truly valued.

I let my hazmat go because their background checks.
Renew license every 4 years, but make you do a 10 year background check and refingerprint.
Gave to drive over 100 miles one way to be refingerprinted/rebackgrounded.

Last time was at a coast guard facility, that woman there hated everyone and everything, when meet i said “Hi.” she ignored everything except put hand there on glass when it’s light comes on.

So IOW, don't get endorsements you'll never use because they'll just cost you money come renewal time.

And you have to pass the hazmat test again, which is not that easy.

That didn’t bother me, I’d had hazmat for years, though you got to read their questions carefully, they way they word them could trip you.
I just didn’t want to drive over 200 miles before taking test, then 7 months later (5 year twic card expired) go back again.
