If the truck has/had a blower on it then the hours will be higher by about 20%. A APU, of course, will lower it.

I'm reviving this thread to get some input on a Mack MP-8 with 865,000 miles and just over 26,000 engine hours. It was a fleet truck for the 1st 450,000 miles and was idled A LOT. With the addition of a generator/rooftop A/C installation, it has barely been idled since the current owner has had it from 450,000 miles till now. Is this something I should be scared of? The engine seems to still be in great shape. I'm getting a dyno hopefully next week to know for sure.

It would be hard to calculate engine hours one would think.

    Depending on the operation.

My truck fires up in the morning and don't shut off till end of day when it's parked.

Half the day is idle while I load/unload. Half of that idle is running the pump.

    Dump trucks same.

    Couple examples.
My truck was originally a werner otr sleeper truck. It's been a local day cab about 10 years now.

I bought a truck one year ago I’m OTR driver have apu and I don’t idle over night in one year I had an average 43 miles per hour previous owner had in four years about 41 miles per hour so I figured he didn’t idle much too. So it depends on local driver or OTR.

I would guess if an average miles per hour driven is higher than 40miles per hour of engine running that’s pretty good for any truck

    1 year October 2021 - 10/22

    422,000 miles - 522,000 miles

    100,000 miles = 2,300 engine running hours

    43 miles per hour

Total Since 2018 to 2022 November

    522,531 miles = 12,514 engine running hours

    41 miles per hour

    2018 - 2021 October

    0 miles to 422,000 miles

    422,000 miles = 10,230 engine running hours

    41 miles per hour

178,000 miles and 4,018 hours on it.
I don't idle much outside of it's a daycab so end of shift it's shut off.

I think that there is a lot of idle time on that truck. Emission systems don't like idling. You can get an ECM dump that will show you idle percentages, among other things.
