Just wondering if anyone has done this and if they know the legality of it. I read if it's on public property then the boot is considered public property and it's illegal to remove it but I just parked in front of the hotel for 3 days and did not know at the very end of the parking hiding behind a truck there was some sign that said no parking for more than 24 hours. I came out twice a day to check on my truck and there was no warnings or anything and now I checked out of the hotel and there's a sign and a boot on my truck. Obviously I'm not happy. Wondering if I can pay a locksmith to come out and pick the lock as long as he doesn't damage the boot and just leave it on the ground and drive away which seems like would be cheaper than paying for the stupid boot to be removed.
Ever paid a locksmith to remove a boot from their truck?

well locksmith most likely will get travel time, to the site, and back home or to the shop.
then hourly, depending on how long it takes.
most likely too, he's gonna have a "minimum" time no matter how little time it takes him.
expect at least $300 for a locksmith service, and that's even if he will do that.
call and ask, then let us know?Rookie driver 956, jimbo33, BennysPennys and 2 others Thank this. -

Because they're slimy extortionist companies putting stuff on other people's properties just to extort money out of them for like 5 minutes of work. It's unethical and slimy and locksmiths thousands of times a day all over America opened locks without destroying anybody's property that's their job. You don't sound like much of a happy camper dude. We miss the good old days when truckers used to help each other out

maybe you like to throw your money away but if you can find a way to do some something for $200 instead of $500. That's an extra $300 in your pocket. Most truck tow truck companies are legalized criminals with licenses to steal. They make more than some lawyers and doctors charge per hour just for hooking up to a car and stealing it and then holding it hostage so I don't have much respect for those crooks. Any 12 year old kid could be a tow truck driver it doesn't take much skills so they're grossly overpaid the companies areRookie driver 956 and Gearjammin' Penguin Thank this.

If you're bobtail always try to park the tractor in the hotel parking lot. I always ask the hotel questions before even getting the room. Raw deal, especially since we're required to take 34 for a reset. I would have no problem cutting it off.

Were you on hotel property? Or in a lot that isn’t really truck parking for the hotel? Because it seems like the hotel could resolve the issue if they wanted to.
