My company gives the shipper 2 hours to load/unload. After that it costs them $100 an hour, and I get $12.50 an hour. Better than nothing, I suppose!

What is your job title? truck driver/volunteer?:D
Over 40 years trucking and have always been paid for any waiting/unloading/loading time. You guys must work for some cheap SOBS that your time is not compensated. I'm on duty when these activities are in progress whether I am involved in the process or not. Always paid hourly when backed to a dock.

I vastly prefer drop and hooks. Live loads I've had in my first few months driving are about 50/50 . Being about half the time they do it in about an hour or so and there's already an open dock for me. The other half of the time the shipper/receiver is overcrowded , takes HOURS just to get it a door , and then I can they take their Sweet ### time unloading . And possibly demand lumper fees at the end .

And it's the live loads that tend to have clutter in their yards like containers in their already limited space so it screws with your ability to back in . I've been todo many awkward docks it's not even funny

Alot of the time with drop and hook I'm going to some warehouse or large yard with generous space , you drop hook and out of there without wasting precious hours
