"Counterbalance Hill". I lived on top of that hill a few years. It was always a source of entertainment during snowfall.IluvCATS and WesternPlains Thank this.

Boots: Danner, Schnee’s
Socks: Darn Tough
Jackets: Carhartt, Johnson Woolen Mills
Sleeping bags: Wiggy’s (or a military-issue extreme cold weather bag)
Rain bibs: Carhartt
Other incidentals, just pick up wherever.... expensive as some good clothing may be, its worth every penny if it keeps me warm! I don’t skimp on gear.Last edited: Oct 29, 2017

I have a cabelas 0° XL bag. Pretty decent but it wasn’t up to snuff last year in extreme temps (like real 0°). Maybe I should get the military bag.

I would BUY a Wiggy’s bag.

Looks like they have rectangular bags. So I will. The hunters bag is priced right. Same as this cabelas bag. Worth a try.
Dan.S Thanks this. -
Get the bags that are compatible with the external bags - that way if it isn’t warm enough, you can increase your -20 bag to a -40 or even -60....

And a soft fleece cap worn while sleeping does a world of good to keep you warm.

Depends on what type of sleeping bag you are using.
For maximum effectiveness in cold weather, you should be using a mummy-type sleeping bag, with a hood and drawstring, in which case a cap wouldn’t be very useful.
If you’re using an open top rectangular bag, you’re going to have a lot of heat loss, anyway.Lepton1 Thanks this. -
There's a place in PA that I've driven by a few times that advertises sheepskin coats, and truck parking. Cant remember what interstate, but i think it is exit 19. I've never had enough time to stop though. Maybe the next time I drive through PA.
My current winter coat is a leather coat that's 30+ years old, and last year it started to bust seams, so it's time for a new one.Lepton1 Thanks this.
