My bad, the super trucker attitude has been clouding my home terminal as of late, so I jumped the gun here. Sorry about that.

The Petes I have driven had speedos that went up to 80 mph. They were all 379s, from 1999 to 2006. Bumped up to that a few times, and past a little just see how fast it would go.

But cab got real noisy over 75 mph, especially going up hill as you could hear the turbos winding up and whatever else the Cat was growling about. Kept the cruise on 70. I liked to watch the turbo boost peg out at 38 psi to make sure I was getting max power. If you went much below 70 mph, you could not get the maximum boost. Had to keep the speed up to keep the rpms up.

Boss didn't seem to care about fuel or mpg. He just wanted the truck back in time for the next load of milk.

Its like I said in another thread. Getting there faster, and getting another load, and delivering it faster, is really the only way a company driver can have any impact on how much money he makes. There are fuel bonuses at many companies. But, there are mileage bonuses too. So from a simple company driver perspective, speed pays....not much else does. When you are paid by the mile, making miles is the only way to get paid.

I agree with you that it can have that result. Certainly. But still, what else can a company driver do to increase his revenue besides making more miles. In the long term, refusing to work on a mileage based pay scale, would change things. But in the near term, getting paid this week, miles are all its about.

With the new elog mandate we need to either get rid of the stupid 14 or start paying us hourly+ overtime like everyone else..

RockinChair and free spirited1 Thank this.
