I’ve used all sorts of brands of oils. All do the job. Oil filters I buy OEM or Mobil 1. I usually add Lucas to high mileage vehicles since they tend to burn oil

What I really learned and saw first hand in my wrenching days in north dakota tearing down engines and rebuilding them was the importance of oil flow at extreme cold temperatures.
The other was condensation and fuel dilution due to the after mentioned not getting burned off , this leads to sludgeing and plugging of oil ports and acid build up .
Only way to overcome that is change the oil more often or at least go to an oil with a better additive package such as full synthetic....
The engines I tore down were 70s and 80s Ford and gm that we rebuild and most were sludged to the hilt resulting in the engine being starved for oil....people didn't change oil often enough and we have the same principle going on today because people are to cheap to change oil and listen to bs from oems .dwells40, IH9300SBA, M22 rockcrusher and 1 other person Thank this. -
Lucas in gas engines does nothing more than thicken the oil you can do the same thing with using 20w50. Helps take clearance out of crank bearing rod bearing and cam bearings and can't blow by oil as easy.
