Called breakdown and confirmed that my APU is also on the recall list. How wonderful. Matt told me that all our trucks with the Carrier Aspen is under said recall

Some of us are just adjusted to it. I’ve never driven a truck with an APU and I’ve never had an APU on any truck I’ve owned. As a company driver we didn’t have the frame space because of the lift axle and also keeping the truck short for Idaho’s regs. As an owner because I couldn’t justify the cost. The nights the truck ran all night would be few and far between, and maybe it’s all the camping I’ve done. I’d just open the all the bunk windows and turn my fans on.

When I was a company driver they’d download the ECM report every month when they’d service the truck. Anything over 12% idle time got a nice red circle around it and too many red circles and drivers would get a talking to. But it was also a different time and running in the NW usually affords cooler temps at night, or you can choose to sleep where it’s cooler. On the days I was headed to Utah I’d usually sleep at Malad ID in the summer because it would easily be 20 degrees cooler there than down in the SLC valley.

Anyway, that’s my old man rant about sleeping. Lol.

I was like this way before I even considered getting my CDL. I cannot sleep if it's even a little warm or stuffy, period. Doesn't matter where it is. I set my thermostat at 68 at night with a fan blowing right on me at home and even then sometimes I wake up sweating my ### off

I was able to sleep without the truck running last night because it got down to 40 degrees or so

I've woken up numerous times in the truck when the APU compressor kicked off because it reached temperature only for it to blow humid air into the sleeper

    Tell us more Uncle Long!!!

    Tell us more… :)

Ya, camper here too but boy am I glad we have APUs. I’d be a tad bit grumpier than I already am. Maybe that’s why they started letting Drivers idle and added APUs. . . Created fewer issues for HR… lol :)

Ya, those are the nice nights for good sleeping. Kick on the APU to warm things up a bit to make coffee. My trucks tend to throw fits when I boil water without the APU or engine running.

I’m an admitted cheapskate. Knowing my habits I couldn’t make a $12k APU pencil out. Up until I leased to Tralo in ‘21 I was rarely doing anything where I had to park for 10 hours. And at Tralo I’d get a motel room if I had to do a 34 anyway. And at FCC I didn’t do 34’s away from home.
