    Load info says shingles, so I'll assume for now.

    I've picked up wet, muddy, rough cut lumber from the ground in eastern Kentucky had to tarp it, and delivered in middle Tennessee. The customer unwillingly waited on me to untarp just so they could set the lumber in their own mud puddle.


    I respect and understand it. Just don't like it. :(

    Over at SPD I hauled broker loads of shingles out of Fontana. The 1st time I picked up a load there, broker swore the consignee wanted it tarped. When you got the delivery, they were wondering why we tarped it. All the rest of the loads I pulled out of there never had to have tarps after that.

    At least shingles are fairly symmetrical and easy to tarp, well, easier than other stuff like elevators.

    I've had to tarp fence posts, and bundles of sandstone pavers.

    Rough cut and shop lumber will split going down the road, especially in hot air. We used to haul a ton of shop out of north Idaho down to Utah and I didn’t know that until one of our drivers didn’t do it and had a load rejected because the ends split from the hot air. That driver wasn’t me, for the record. Lol

    Tarping elevators and paint booths hated them i can feel my BP going up just thinking about those.

    Scenario: it's winter and a heavy snowstorm stops traffic on the interstate. You're going to be there quite a while, maybe a day or even more, but your tanks are full of diesel and you've got food and a microwave. After a while, motorists are getting low on gas and are getting cold and hungry. People are knocking on your door, asking for shelter. Do you let them in, turn them away (or ignore them), or send them back to their cars with bowl of hot food?

    I’d probably give them food and some water if they needed it. If their car quit working then I’d invite them up to stay warm.

    As long as there isn’t too many of them! We’re supposed to help those in need, and the tables could be turned and you are low on diesel, no food etc…

    Happened to me twice during my career. Both times they ran out of gas. First time it was a young couple. Invited them in, had coffee and soup. Second time was a young woman with a 1 year old. Took them in, set them up on the lower bunk, made hot food and all was good. It was one of those things that has an everlasting feeling of doing good for someone. My biggest feel good story is back in the middle 80’s I was single and headed to San Francisco right before Christmas. There was a young woman in her 20’s with a young child trying to get back to Connecticut for the holidays. We were at Iowa 80 in Walcott, it was a Greyhound bus stop at the time. I bought here a ticket, gave her money for food and sent her on her way to here parents. To this day we stay in touch.

    Was able to deliver to 3 of the 4 remaining stops today. Final stop stopped receiving at 1400 and my eta was 1350. Decided it wasn't worth it. I'll take it in first thing, then head to Portland. I woke up not feeling great Saturday morning, so the side of me that didn't care and just wanted to wait until tomorrow won.
