Probably because their contract guarantees FCC at least 1 load a week from that facility to Topeka and that’s all they had.

Not done with orientation yet but got my road test done with Randy.
I have a 2021 Cascadia midroof with a 10 speed. Has 360k miles on it already. I heard FCC doesn't have many manuals anymore.hotrod1653, MidWest_MacDaddy, IH9300SBA and 9 others Thank this. -
They still get them new. I don't know how many overall, but I have looked into a few of the new style T680s and about half have been manuals. Personally, it wouldn't hurt my feelings too bad to get into an auto, as long as it was either a Freightliner with a DT12, or a Volvo. The auto they use in the KW is just a bit of a turd.IH9300SBA, Bumper and runningman0661 Thank this.

It hides under the facade of the Paccar name but in reality it's an Eaton. Eaton makes fantastic manual transmissions, but man, their automatics are the worst.Trucker Paul, bzinger and cdavis188 Thank this.

I believe I heard Travis say that about the Freightliners. All new Cascadia's are autos. Because I had commented that the midroofs wouldn't have been my first choice, since I'm 6'9.
With 360k already on this truck I wouldn't be surprised if I was shoved into a new one by the end of the year -
Rest of orientation experience:
Everyone I met seemed like a great person. From Travis in the shop to Michel in payroll. My dispatcher Andrew seemed like a good person too. Even the president of the company, Tim, talked with me for a few minutes, which I found awesome that a president/CEO wanted to know who was working for him personally. The guy who did my road test, Randy, had started at FCC driving an International cabover before retiring a few years ago. I'm still a bit rusty on a manual and Mike said he could put me in an automatic if i found the manual too troublesome. It's great that a company will give you that option. Most companies would tell you to deal with it or show you the door.
Overall my orientation experience was fantastic, even though a lot got squeezed into one day. At the hotel again tonight and will probably be picking up a load heading down south so I can swing by the house and pick up the rest of my things.IH9300SBA, drvrtech77, BigR and 3 others Thank this. -
@cdavis188 6’9”? You’re going to give a fellow driver here, we call “stretch” a run for his money. Glad to hear orientation went well, any questions don’t hesitate to ask.
MidWest_MacDaddy, IH9300SBA and cdavis188 Thank this. -
No manuals anymore??? Omg

They still plan on having a few manuals in the fleet, but two things to consider. A manual transmission is now considered a specialty order when ordering a truck from any of the OEMs, and secondly with the back log on new trucks (FCC has 100 on order from several different manufacturers) they are at the mercy of the manufacturers to get whatever they can get from them, if automated manuals are all they can secure, they will take them.
Like most other fleets, Covid and supply chain issues have forced fleets to hold on to trucks longer than they normally would before trading them or buyingMidWest_MacDaddy, IH9300SBA, dwells40 and 3 others Thank this. -
Yeah, the same thing here… My company has ordered manual transmissions, but I’ve been told there’s at least an 18 month wait on those so he took what he can get from peterbilt which was 15 autoshift trucks..MidWest_MacDaddy, IH9300SBA, dwells40 and 2 others Thank this.
