Not on the Freight side. Freight will continue to be a M-F operation with any linehaul on the weekend as a result of unplanned hub overflow.
i take standard delivery times, which then, most (if not all-those times) i still get my packages a few days earlier than they said. i have no reason to pay for next day, but in the past, with say companies like NewEgg, or others for computers, i did pay like about $20 (more or less) for an important computer part.
If I were a contractor being required to increase my fleet size, with Amazon supposedly on the threshold of rolling out their own potentially large fleet. I suppose I'd be a bit concerned over the possible impact of the new Amazon fleet.
For the team drivers its nothing new, when I ran for FedEx ground back over five years ago we ran over the weekend all the time. I lasted a year and said screw team driving, went tanker and never looked back.
to be honest, i cannot see Amazon's upcoming fleet to fire off any contractors. i think the private contractors could only enhance faster pick-up/delivery times to the d/c centers.
it depends on where you live in relation to an Amazon DC. I live in DFW, and if an item is in a local warehouse and I order before noon, I can have it delivered before 9pm that day. I’ve never had anything delivered later than 2pm though. Needed a part for my dishwasher last week. I ordered at 1030 am and it was on my doorstep at 1215.
