Do you think I am stupid without a lick of sense? Before I wrote that I looked at the list in part B. The OP listed 3 crimes. I based my comment on the fact the OP used the term Aggravated with a Drugs Charge along with a Weapons charge. I did make an assumption his charge was a firearm charge. If my assumption was correct my comment was in fact a SOLID TRUTH! As I write this my mind goes back to many conversations I have had with people some not even truckers that have told me about their charges. To a person, if they had a drug charge and a weapon Charge that weapon was in fact a firearm. That firearm charge is a 7-year disqualifier.

    INTERIM DISQUALIFYING CRIMINAL OFFENSES

Conviction for one of the following felonies is disqualifying if the applicant was convicted, pled guilty (including ‘no contest’), found not competent to stand trial, or found not guilty by reason of insanity within seven years of the date of the application; OR if the applicant was released from incarceration after conviction within five years of the date of the application.

    • Unlawful possession, use, sale, manufacture, purchase, distribution, receipt, transfer, shipping, transporting, delivery, import, export of, or dealing in a firearm or other weapon. A firearm or other weapon includes, but is not limited to, firearms as defined in 18 U.S.C. 921(a)(3) or 26 U.S.C. 5 845(a), or items contained on the U.S. Munitions Import List at 27 CFR 447.21.
    • Extortion.
    • Dishonesty, fraud, or misrepresentation, including identity fraud and money laundering, where the money laundering is related to a crime listed in Parts A or B (except welfare fraud and passing bad checks).
    • Bribery.
    • Smuggling.
    • Immigration violations.
    • Distribution, possession w/ intent to distribute, or importation of a controlled substance.
    • Arson.
    • Kidnapping or hostage taking.
    • Rape or aggravated sexual abuse.
    • Assault with intent to kill.
    • Robbery.
    • Fraudulent entry into a seaport as described in 18 U.S.C. 1036, or a comparable State law.
    • Violations of the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act under 18 U.S.C. 1961, et seq., or a comparable state law, other than any permanently disqualifying offenses.
    • Voluntary manslaughter.
    • Conspiracy or attempt to commit crimes in this section.

One more point. I don't want to write anything that would discourage the OP or any other person in the OP's shoes. However, it is important to remember that when someone just says they were convicted of a drugs and weapons charge in almost every case they are not giving you the full story. Saying I got a drug possession charge is not close to enough information. To be honest I know of no one who has a charge of both drug and weapon possession that was not also selling those drugs. If the OP is an exception so be it. Then the OP goes on to say they have an aggravated charge? Aggravated what? 99% of the time when I see the term aggravated it has either sexual battery or assault after it. Did all 3 of these crimes happen together? Aggravated also tells me the OP has a history of violence. Violence + Drugs + Weapons = I hope these crimes happened at least 10 years ago.

Nope, never meant to upset you or meant to imply that I thought you were stupid. I misread your post, that’s all, amigo.

Peace! No problems. I think maybe I should apologize for the tone of that comment. It was way before 6 AM here when I wrote that and I was not feeling well.

Felony sale of a controlled substance charge from 1989 on my record. I'll list it on any application. I won't apologize for it, nor will I explain the circumstances if asked. If any company is worried about what I did 33 years ago I don't want to work for them. For God's sake we move freight.

I am 64. I know many people around my age both male and female that caught felony convictions 30+ years ago. All of them have put it behind them and to date have had productive lives. I know a man that hauls fuel for a company that sells Jet-A fuel as well as the 100LL used in the small prop planes. This man has both a hazmat as well as a TWIC card. He makes deliveries to many different airports, he even makes deliveries to military bases. The man is also a convicted felon convicted a long time ago of murder. YES, I know murder is a PART A permanent disqualifier. To the best of my knowledge, he has not received a pardon. Maybe the TSA made a mistake, maybe for some reason, the records of that court are not available to the TSA. Or maybe that crime was so long ago and the man was still in his teens they overlooked it? I just know he has hazmat and a TWIC.

Getting HazMat and TWIC can increase employment opportunities, but not having them certainly doesn't stop anyone from starting a career in trucking. Plenty of companies don't require them.

I work for one that doesn't. I also have background issues. Didn't stop me from getting hired. It was difficult, but not impossible.

Butler Transport and Dutch Maid Logistics are two companies to consider. I was offered employment at both, and some would say that my background is worse. Albeit, my convictions were in 2006, and I have no parole/supervision.

US Xpress is another company that cleared my background.

Several points. First, that comment was NOT a general comment. It was a specific comment directed to the OP and my comment was also assuming the weapons charge was firearms related.

Next, I would guess and say maybe 70 to 80 % of all trucking jobs DO NOT require TWIC or hazmat.

Last is a beware comment. I got my TWIC card in 2008. From 2008 until I retired in 2012 I was asked for my TWIC card in several ports AND several chemical companies. In fact, I was just trying to get into a secure area to pick up a loaded trailer. I was not at a port either. Because their escorts were all gone for the night no TWIC no entry. It's been 10 years since I retired. I do not know how this has shaken out.
