Females training with men

Get the hazmat endorsement and tanker endorsement
You won't be hauling anything dangerous, but some loads require hazmat. Could be a load of cans of spray paint or fingernail polish. The tanker is needed even pulling dry van or reefer because you may get a load of plastic totes full of a liquid; might even be purified water.

Do not go to Covenant, as a former female trainer for seven years with them (training both males and females) I would strongly advise you to look elsewhere. The current management in training dept is a joke, the bottom line is meat in a seat and I was told not to worry about adequate training but to just get trainees time in and only teach them enough to pass the written test..proper training and safety means nothing to Covenant. You don't have to take my word for it, check out Desiree W with Real Women in Trucking for further input about Covenant and other companies with negative reports about training women. Also 90 percent (yes 90 percent) of my students had criminal backgrounds or felony background and almost all were for assault or domestic violence..in other words violent criminals thst you don't want to be on a truck in close confined quarter s with. Like I said look up Desiree W and Real Women in Trucking (Not Women in Trucking, that's an entirely different enity)

 

There's a couple husband/wife teams on this forum that have been with Covenant for years and have nothing negative to say about the company.

Chinatown I'm sure there are plenty of drivers and/or teams that are happy with Covenant, not everyone has had to deal with sexual harassment or problems in this industry...taking advice from someone who has never even dealt with a situation isn't a good idea however. One bad apple doesn't spoil the whole bunch, however these aren't isolated incidents but seem to be repeated occurrences at the same companies over and over. As I said you don't need to take my word for it, there are plenty of documented incidents and Real Women in Trucking is a good source for information regarding issues women deal with. I have trained for several companies and from my own personal experiences I will say that the dlot opens both ways, there can be challenges regardless of what sex or other contributing factors a person is presented with..but no one should be denied the right to be properly and safely trained and certainly no one should have to deal with being assulted, threatened, intimidated or harassed in any manner and any such incidents should be thoroughly and completely investigated and addressed as well as resolved properly. I have trained over 80 students and guess what, the problems do exist..i don't believe in blaming a company for another's actions, but I do blame a company that ignores or fails to follow thru on reported complaints. What's really sad is that not every driver is a mature responsible adult, and not every company protects or provides a safe work environment for both male and female. I used to be Covenants biggest fan, I believed and supported them 100 percent..i even went a few rounds on Facebook with MS. W believing her attempts to black ball the company was a farce and unwarranted. But there is no denying when facts and evidence proves right from wrong, MS. W has proven to be a fierce advocate for justice in the trucking industry especially for women (Sure she can be a bit over zealous if not down right revengeful at times but that's best taken with a grain of salt lol) All I can say is research the company one is interested in..red flags are red flags, period. As I've said don't take my word for it, there is plenty of information available about companies for prospective job seekers.

 

Used to be women trainers with Schneider, I seen some in Tanker division as well as Van.

 

If you were my daughter or a woman in my life I would probably advise you against it. While it’s perfectly and highly probable you could get a professional trainer that would treat you right, there’s just too high of a chance that you could get some dirtbag coming onto you every other chance he gets. You’re cooped up in a small Space 24 seven with someone of the opposite sex who probably hasn’t seen a female in months. Just not a good combination in my opinion.
Now if the company sets it up to where your training is such that you drive during the day, stop in the evening and they get you a hotel room, that might be a better option. Lots of companies train that way.
I just wouldn’t chance it. And on the flipside as a male, I wouldn’t be entirely comfortable training a female either. All the woman has to do is say you tried something and that’s it, your career and your life as you know it is over. Maybe you as a trainer and a dude correct her, maybe you don’t pass her, maybe you guys just don’t get along. Too risky going both ways in my opinion.
