Hey everyone. Hope you all had a great Thanksgiving. Lately I've wondered, while driving during the day, if there is a way I can find the newest places to eat. I really like "home cooking" and love little mom and pop type places. Seems they are very hard to find. Does anyone have any ideas or tips, so I can find these gravy and cheese covered paradises? Keep in mind, I do not want to be "Googling" all day long either.
Thanks
Finding a new place to eat

It's kind of a large country. What area are you talking about? That might help. If you actually ARE talking about all across the country, this could get to be a long and interesting thread!
-
Haha! Yeah, give us a bit more info please.
But just in case...I stopped by a pilot that may have what you're asking for.

Buy a book... might even find it in a truck stop somewhere?

I gotta get that book myself... No better time than the present. Hope you don't mind if I use the link myself!
Ive got the tiny one that just lists lot size, weigh scales and if they service rigs... -
If you have an iPad... try the 'App Store' and search for Truck Stops... there's a ton of different apps that will show you truck stops in the area you're currently in, etc.
-
Get yourself one of those huge cb radios and when you park at a new truck stop just holler "heeere kitty kitty" ...
-
I've got the pilot and Loves app, but I would love an app for all of the stops... Would make my life hella easier!
...I smell a new thread.
I think that kind of "home cooking" might take a little longer.
Or or were you thinking chinese food? -
I may be wrong, but I don't think the OP is looking for just any truck stop. I think he is looking for just what he said, an old time place, or at least an old time LIKE place that serves good food. You cannot honestly say that the majority of truck stops serve GOOD food.
It's kind of sad, but as the older generation of folks who run truck stops and restaurants either die off, or retire, they sell out to the major chains, which immediately turn the decent place into a fast food joint, or a ptomaine tavern. -
I knew he was wanting mom/pop, but I haven't been by any of those lately. The pilot I listed above is about as close to home cooking as Ive seen.
To be honest if I had the money id open up a place just like the OP is looking for... I'm rather tired of over oiled, over salted, and so on food... (Probably aim to do everything but fuel...)Last edited: Dec 14, 2014
