Thanks for posting these updates. I have been pondering trying to start a trucking career in the Food Service business, so this is very interesting to me. The GFS trailers look like they are the worst to unload due to how they floor stack everything, but the drivers also seem the happiest out of the drivers I have talked to, so there must be something to it.
Mike2633 Thanks this. -
I'm actually going to start another thread about how this week is going should have some good information in it. -
Mike, Do you know anything about the GFS warehouse jobs? Have a buddy works for a mega DC and was just turned down at that new GFS location around me. Said something about a strength test?! Not sure if you can see my spacebook friends, he's on it.
I'd like for youns to swap some info if you have any details. Really good dude.No health problems and is a marathon runner. -
I can ask around see what comes up. The strength test is a test I had to take and really it's not that hard, how could he have had some trouble with it? Unfortunatly I work at a satellite office and do not know an awful lot about how the warehouse operates. However I know someone I can ask.
Shaggy Thanks this. -
Made many deliveries to GFS in Piedmont SC. Not your typical foodservice delivery. They had about 10 parking spots for outside carriers. I would show up the night before with an 0700 or 0800 appointment. Every time without fail the receiving guy would come out about 0600 and have you back into a door. Usually out of there within 30 minutes or so. Defiantly one of the best places I consistently delivered to over the years when I pulled vans and reefers.

Shaggy I don't know a whole heck of a lot about the warehouse, but I don't know what could have been the rub with you're friend. The strength test (unless they give them a different one then the one I took). Is basically them putting you in a machine and then they test to see how fast you can move you're arms knees elbows stuff like that, 4-5 times and the machine has some resistance to it. They are testing you're range of motion what ever that means.
I know the warehouse can be heavy and demanding because the 28' trucks are usually floor loaded and the stuff comes down the chute and boom is loaded into the truck and then everything is secured with load bars.
They also have order selectors and pickers like any place else that build pallets for the volume trucks.Shaggy Thanks this. -
Mike2633 Thanks this.
