I was very fortunate to land a LTL job right out of school. It had great pay, tons of OT and insanely good benefits... It was over night Monday to Friday and I LOVED it. I was unfortunate in that it was with Yellow. As most of you out there know it recently went under. I was there for just under 4 months. I was hoping to have a career with them but if not at least a year or two of experience.
Now I am stuck. I only have 4 months of experience so nobody that requires a year+ will hire me. Also, a lot of companies apparently won't even consider me because I am "a Teamster" and they are afraid I'll try to turn them union which is funny because I am not even completely paid up on my initial union dues yet as I wasn't even in it long enough so there is ZERO chance of that. I don't want to do OTR because I don't want to be away from home that much. Unless something gives soon I may not be long for this business. I have submitted 30 apps. The only one who is kicking my door down is C. R England and I have heard horror story's about them. I am in Cali an hour and a half north of San Francisco. If I decide to give OTR a try who is a reputable company I should try with?
First year plan cut short

CR England has some pretty good dedicated routes. For example, intermodal hauling shipping containers from the ports to the customer.
Here in Las Vegas I see CR England day cabs delivering to big retailers, such as Walmart, Sam's Club, Target. Those day cabs look great, always clean and no dents & scrapes.
Here's a photo of CR England day cab. That's an older tractor though, which I haven't seen around here.
I'm not steering you to CR England, just letting you know that's an optionaustinmike, tscottme and Truckingdaytrader Thank this. -
Swift also has dedicated accounts like CR England. Sometimes you'll see CR England and Swift trucks at Walmart or Sam's Club at the same time. At least that's the case where I live.

I am very sorry to hear this, and sadly, end of the line, pal. Hey, Yellow will still be a heck of a reference, and things will even out. Meantime, don't settle for a crap company in desperation. Chinatown posts many great companies. Might not be union, but I think this may have soured you some on union companies. Clearly they are history, or almost, and just as well. And nothing wrong with England, or other non-union companies. They haul a lot of our freight today. I saw'r a Safeway (union) trailer pulled by an England truck, so, if Albertson is using non-union power, and they are #4 in the country, with Yellow gone, not too many left. Ace Hardware too now has "Happy, Go Lucky" trucking pulling their wagons. Point is, things look grim now, they always do, but Yellow isn't the 1st big company to go under, and SURELY won't be the last. You'll be fine.
