I have a 2014 Volvo 780 with a 240 inch wheel base and have no problem pulling 46k lbs. I can haul up to 48k if need be. I pull a 102 x 48 Utility trailer and my empty weight with half tank of fuel is 32,000 lbs.

My first truck was an 2007 Volvo 780 and I pulled flat with it also. However, it had a 226 inch wheel base which made it a bit of a pain to work the front of the flat.

The one I would be getting has a 233 wheelbase...do you think that would be decent enough or would it pose a problem with a 30" kingpin and a basic headache rack??

That's going to be pretty tight.

Figure at least 2 ft for a standard rack. You would likely end up running the fifth wheel most of the way back just to have swing clearance. Front overhang is also not really an option at that point.

There's a reason you see most flatbed trucks with a longer wheel base.

Van trucks tend to be shorter to allow them to pull a 53' trailer and still get into tighter places. Most flatbeds you will see are going to be 48' with shallower pins which allows a longer tractor to leave room for overhang to swing as well as room on the frame for a rack.

Pete is definitely a better looking truck, but the interior layout/space of the Volvo is appealing

Mine is a 220 inch wheelbase and no you will not be overhanging the front. With that said, I can haul anything that the others do, I just have to hang off 5th he back more. Just means that I will be buying more permits.

My ex was comfortable for a while too. Guy I run with has one right at 250k and sensors are starting to give him fits.

Friend of mine has a 780, Volvo engine. He's replaced the wiring harness twice and injectors 4x. People ask for advice and then don't listen. But then they want you to listen to them when they're in the shop.

Why should I listen to you when you didn't listen to me?

    "Six, you're an A Hole!"

Yes I am. But I know how to listen.
