I was on a dedicated run for a little while until my truck broke down and my company had me take a flatbed truck to pull a reefer and it was a windy day and man that wind pushing up against the front of my reefer had my trailer swinging uncontrollably in all directions. That air dam up top serves a purpose.

To answer your question OP yes in the winter time flatbed work slows down. At my computer any during Thanksgiving a ton of flatbed guys switch over to pull reefers hauling turkeys.

what kind of wind where you driving in? ive never seen mine swinging in the wind and i got a big gap between trailer and bunk think it a 285wb with a 60in bunk. i just like the smaller bunk i was worred about the fish bowl effect. bigger bunk = bigger belly lol. mainly doing local ltl right now but should be doing otr bring produce up the east coast here in a few weeks. kind of exicted to see what it will do on flat ground and long trips mpg wise. idk what good fuel mileage is but with my ride im runing 5.8- 6 mpg runing pa and ny alot which isnt exacty flat so im happy not to mention it only a 450 1650 motor.

    Cummins isx 450/1650?

I have a 389 Pete with 2015 isx 500/1850 and I am seeing about the same mileage and I'm doing mostly east coast work to and from Ontario. This mpg is also about the same when I go to Alberta and down to California and back to ontario. The wind out west seems to make it eat fuel more than going up and down hills in the east. I should also note my truck only has about 50,000 miles on it. Got it with 30,000 miles. Maybe it is still breaking in. Never had one this new.

Shi. Mine isn't a flat top. It is a stand up with 78" bunk and a very small gap between sleeper and trailer, trying to get weight up front. Can only get 11300 up there before I ram the reefer unit into the sleeper.

    Winnyf1 Thanks this.

I have run a T800 with a midroof but the trailer gap on it is around 10ish feet. The truck is a 600 hp 2050 ft lb torque. I normally get around 5.8 mpg with it. Truck drives and rides like a dream though. I want to get a flat top but the boss won't let me.

    Winnyf1 Thanks this.
