thanks for posting your video, this may turn out to be a good thread after all.
To me though, that accident looked like it was caused by over compensating. As he passed you he noticed in his mirror that he was over the dotted line & fearing he would hit you he brought his truck a little too sharply back over into the left lane... he then had trouble with the trailer shifting since it was obviously empty, plus he was taking the curve too fast.

That Donner Pass video is an old one - and I think you have either completely mis-interpreted what your eyes saw in the video, or have no idea what you are talking about, or no experience in the industry, or a mixture of all or none of the above.
I'll leave it at that.Raiderfanatic Thanks this. -
You have too much time on your hands., why aren't you rolling?
-
it's just one person's perception, don't let it get you too upset

Sure it's an old video. However, to a green hand coming out of school, they should watch this video. It was dry out, it's friggin Donner Pass, and that truck should have been in the correct gear, with his engine braking effect, which in turn would not have cause the unit to do what it did. Had the trainer actually been training, instead of sleeping, they would both be alive today.

In todays trucks, Donner pass isn't bad if you respect its character just as any other hill. Don't let it intimidate

That's understood. However, proper grade climbing and descention should be taughtRaiderfanatic and EndHatred Thank this.

The most important lesson that a noob driver can take from that Donner Pass video is that if you see an accident in front of you go around the accident first and then pull over.

Getting junk stuck on your tires is much more preferable than getting stuck there for the next 3 hours.EndHatred and BostonTanker Thank this. -
Best tip I can give a new trucker is drive like if your mother is in the car in front of u.
I sometimes forget to slow down and when I think about my own mother being on the same highway as me, it helps me control my self and adjust my speed .Raiderfanatic, EndHatred and BostonTanker Thank this.
