For an OTR driver is a 100 days on / 30 days off type schedule reasonable?

Not sure what kind of trucking you want to do but. If you go into the moving business that is a perfect schedule. Just dont expect to have that 100 days off during the month of june july or aug. Other than that you can come and go as you please. Thats goes same reguardless of if your company driver or owner operator.

I agree about the airfare on noob pay. My girlfriend is from Illilo City and were looking at around 5 grand for both our tickets round trip. But I'm hoping to do better than $2500 a ticket when I really start looking into it in a few months. Dallas to Manilla is exactly halfway around the world and its not cheap to fly anymore..it appears.

Also another thing you might have to worry about is your current driver's license. Living overseas myself, a lot of companies wouldn't hire me cause they wanted 3 yrs clean 48 state side, or something close to that. So when u call and ask make sure you keep that in mind. I called a few starter companies who never called me back, and my MVR was spotless. It's all about what the insurance company wants I have been told.

My girl is from Davao City, I plan to settle long-term on Camiguin Island (Small island off the coast of Mindanao).
Thanks for the info., it would seem I would need to put in a solid first year of working and then go with my program in the following years. That would be okey by me. I figure I need to clear $2,500 per month for my plan to work. I can actually make $2,500 per month working here in Asia (English teacher), but I think I would enjoy driving more.

This is interesting, I thought one big selling point for my services would be my clean driving record, no moving violation since 1999. Due in large part that I have not been driving in the USA since 2005. My standard CA driver's licence expired in 2007, my first order of business when I return stateside is to apply a new CA licence.

    Thanks for the replies!

Average about $4.00 - $7.00 USD for 1 hour, in China.

You can live very comfortably on Social Security.

Made some port calls in the Orient when in the Navy & fell in love with the Orient. Wound up in China like this; when I decided to retire to the Orient I made plans years early. Put ad in website blossoms.com with info I am going to move to Orient & want to meet a girl to live in her country. Got 100's of responses from Philippines & China. One China girl & I clicked. She's 30 years younger than me & now we have 2 children together, one in the first grade this year. Four friends who are truckers did the same after they saw what I did. One bought a condo within walking distance of mine, one bought in Shenzhen and one in Shanghai, the other some place inland. All of them have wives at least 20 years younger. I used 401K money to pay cash for condo, since here can't finance a home past 50th birthday. In other words if you're 47 you can only finance for 3 years. China cost of living very cheap, but even cheaper in Philippines & Thailand. There's a Social Security office in Manila, which is who I call when I have questions. It's a wonderful life; come on over truckers!!
