I have two young boys that I want to be able to spend time with, but another side of me likes the idea of being OTR. I recently retired from the Navy, so deployment (similar to being OTR) is common in the house. I am going with a regional affair and this gets me home a lot more regular than National, so it is a sort of win win for me. I like being on the open road; big reason why I went this route after having a couple of high paying jobs after I retired from the Navy. Just couldn't do the office thing any longer.

There's nothing wrong with asking questions. People don't know, so they ask. Sorry you're fed up with that. People come here to learn -- isn't that why you're here? "Clogging up the forum" -- I'm not even going to touch that.

The only true dumb question is the one that is not asked!

I sure wish back years ago my knowledge of trucking was already in my head before starting driving, heck I could have done those infomercials at 2am and made a killing!

The reason he made the comment about 'clogging up the forum' is because there are 3-4 NEW threads stared EVERY week regarding hometime for newbies. If they were truly interested all they have to do is read through the Forum, but once again it's the 'Me, Me, Me' attitude and they are too lazy to research.

I did. I have a very decent job. Never drove OTR. If I had believed people like you, that never would have happened.

What are these dues you keep talking about. Most of my driving has been local (95%) with a tad bit regional. I've always been home every night. I'm not in a union, I don't pay dues nor have I ever paid them. Are you suggesting that my years of experience are somehow not valid because I never had to camp out in a truck stop? Tell ya what, I'll give you my bosses number. You can call him and tell him that he shouldn't have hired me because my experience doesn't count. See how long it takes me to hang up on you.

No idea what the OP meant with "dues" either. My carrier is also non-union. I pay my taxes, 401k contribution, and my health benefits deduction. No other "dues" on my end. I do have two suggestions for the OP: 1. Finish school first. 2. Before you start poisoning the water for everyone else, do some "research" that you meantioned earlier or limit yourself to topics that you are familiar with.
