OHHHH OK. I was wondering why would they say that on a qualcom knowing that can be breach of contract on them leases. Didn't think they be that stupid but hey....just going by what you said. Well being they did that to company drivers means their trying to eliminate company drivers and just be lease owner Ops like a few other companies. Makes sense cause I talked to a few lease ops and they were happy but wishing they owned the trucks . All making sense. Sounds like you need to either lease option with them or skip to greener grass. GL in your decision.

I'm with you, they can have my truck back too. I don't have a passport or a hazmat, because I don't want the extra hassles either.

It is a pain since they decide to do this right at Christmas season. And who has a hazmat book in their truck, trip home to get it just to study it. Then test is clear in another city, so another trip home.

And yes I think this is a ploy to get drivers to go lease op instead of company.

Did they realize that some hazmat you can't haul with reefer fuel and steel bottoms in the trailer.

And have they been cutting miles with this new decree? You hear there are always groceries to haul with reefers, so groceries should still be moving the same, so why the reduced miles? are there too many students out there?

I been doing a lot of walking/driving to walmarts/Pilot doing research on things and I have talked to a lot of Prime Drivers and they are Happy and saying Prime is busy and getting a lot of new people, miles etc..... So maybe their cashing in pushing company drivers out and trying to get this rush to lease. Not right way to treat their loyal company drivers but a business move sounds like. Trying to be like Lessors i think. Aren't they lease only company? I feel for these and all drivers. So under appreciated at some places.

    It's not a DOT requirement - only a company one, so yeah, I'd agree it's a PITA.

You're subject to more regulation, higher fines, and I'll wager that Prime isn't going to give you another 5 cpm on a hazmat load.

I'm not going to go "PRIME BASHING" here, but it's another straw of a company like these that broke my back long ago. Like making you buy chains and load locks . . .

Not much of a time frame either, at least the HAZMAT print is an office in Springfield (I had to go there this year to renew) - but it takes 2-3 weeks to come back, then there's the DMV test to take - HEY! you didn't want to go Christmas shopping anyhow!

    And PRIME bucks !?? Really?

    dookie, I'd start looking around.

Same thing happened to me basically. It went like this. I had 62 days exp when I got the job. They said ,"is there any problem with you getting your hazmat" . I thought they were just seeing if I was qualified to get it so I said no. Next thing I know they're expecting me to get it. And they say you said there was no problem with you getting it when we hired you. So I got it and they refused to reimburse me for it said it was condition of employment. 2 years later I renewed hazmat(almost $200 counting new cdl with h endorsement put on there. So 2 years later I said no Im not getting it again (unless you pay for it! No extra pay for having it,all the risk on driver, danger etc. I got tired of hauling anhydrous ethel alchohol around for same pay.I dont blame you for not wanting to get hazmat. I wouldnt do it. Fail the written a few times become ignorant all the sudden whatever you can do.I noticed that those placards are a big red flag to DOT at the scales and on the road "inspect me $$$$$"

I'll also throw in that my company reimburses for the first time, but not subsequently. Prime is reimbursing him using the same scheme - apparel they pay pennies on the dollar for.

I chuck it on the taxes, and at least get 28% or so of it back.

i'd like to know how they can just expect you to get it on your hometime. cuz, when i got mine. it was pay the money, submit finger prints. and wait for approval letter to take to dmv for written test.

unless things have changed. or prime is going to let you stay home for 30 days.
