They sell insurance. This is America and people with bills to pay have to work jobs or sell something to get by. If you don't like what they do don't support them. But don't spread complete nonsense about them. They've never stopped advocating for drivers in 40 years. They're the only trucking association opposed to the speed limiter mandate and actively lobbying against it. Everyone else supports it. Except for the livestock associations but they're only interested in getting an exemption for their drivers. And their association is powerful enough to do it. OOIDA suffers from a fragmented driver population who wouldn't stand up together on any issue out there not even in opposition to the speed limiter mandate. Well this not supposed to be an OOIDA thread, this is about foreign brokers, but if you want to talk about OOIDA then just remember that they put up a fight against the 2 million dollars liability minimum instead of the current $750k, and put an end to New York state's milking on HUT stickers and other things, if you ask me it's worth the few dollars in membership fees

They have to opposite it, close to 100% of their members are against it. They wouldn't like to lose members, a lot of them.
Their insurance is kind of shady from what I know, some brokers don't accept it.

I am going to repeat what I said before about brokers and alike, the FMCSA needs to make sure there is full disclosure of the loads that are being offered by any broker, one of those points of disclosure is if the broker actually originated the load that is being offered and if they are not the originating party, then they have to post who is. This alone will eliminate 80% of the crap everyone puts up with and gut many of these offshore operations.
There should be an in-country requirement for all brokers, no matter who they are. This goes hand in hand with the disclosure requirements that are needed.
And another thing is reforming the rules for bonds, allowing the collection of work to be easier. Elimination of arbitration is in some of these brokers' contracts where the owner is left with a time-consuming process that ends up costing the owner more than the load. This also means that if the load is not originating with the contracted broker, then the owner has recourse to collect from the originating broker for the delivery of the load.Siinman and blairandgretchen Thank this. -
We disagree that's fine, my last post on it. The reason Cattle Associations and the likes can lobby congress and get their drivers exempted from ELD and the soon to be imposed (on all other drivers) speed limiter mandate is because they have plenty of support and money for their PAC's. They didn't and don't ever organize strikes or call for them. That's not what associations do and that's not how laws get influenced in our country. OOIDA is a lightweight and doesn't have the support or money. But they're the only PAC out there that's speaking up for your opposition to it even though you think they're worthless. Why would they ask for a nation wide strike? We are not a union and so no need to do so. I think they are a good set up and have some nice people working for them.
