Over the years, I worked with several ex-law enforcement. One was ex-state trooper, said he couldn't deal with the corruption and quit after 7 years and started driving. All the ex-cops I worked with were excellent drivers and employees.

I'm retired after 25 years as a cop. Had a heart attack, 4 by-passes, and decided enough was enough. Started a carpentry/remodeling biz. Which did good until the economy took the plunge. Now going into trucking. Which I've had a class A CDL for over 30 yrs but never did much with it. Until now.
I miss the PD. But I sure don't miss all the BS that went with it.

On the verge of retiring with 25 plus 3 years military. Second generation LE here. I hate to say it, but I am sooo burnt out on LE.

I relish in the thought of just getting in a decent rig, turning on the Cincinnati Reds baseball radio network and driving to my destination. All I need is a sweetheart dispatcher give me an assignment and its done.....no problems, no #######, no gripes, no complaints. I don't care about miles, I don't care about weather, I don't care about what kind of truck it is, I don't care about traffic conditions, I don't care about truck stops, lot lizards, trucker bombs, CB radios, and what not. There is nothing that the trucking industry can throw at me a could be any worse that the crap I've dealt with over the last decade.

Just looking to get out of LE in one piece and getting into a good flatbed or Hazmat outfit that is professional. I will be ready to start work in the private sector in early 2014.

All I want is decent home time.

My terminal manager is a current LEO. Works nights and weekends in a town north of Houston. So criminals by night and truck drivers by day. I wonder which is worse? Probably varies....

    That's funny right there.....

Each profession has their trials and tribulations. To say one cannot or will not test you is myopic. I wish you the best of luck. (And yes, I have been on both sides of the badge too.)

The difference being.. This time I'm going into a new profession with far less illusions and a bit more realistic expectations. Thanks.

I was blessed, Call my name. Criminal Sic was a course of intrest to me. The Mind of a Cop. What to look for in humans, is a better name. Most of them are putting on a front, some are just mean, They see the same things we do. Badge & Gun. Truckers are most of the time the first on the seen of a bad wreck. I have seen cops puke as I was covered in blood trying to save a life. Didn't do very well I'm afraid. Believe it or not, you focus on the life, not the blood. Saved some, some no chance. Cops for the most part are good people. The DOT can go to Hele. Revenue for the state. Punks that their Uncle has appointed them to. Roscoe P. Coltrain types for sure. Pubic Servants, Money making is the game, NOT safety. I challenge any one that ain't lying to prove me wrong. The mud flap is a 1/4 to high. $ 125.00 fine. Not my trailer Sir. $ 87.50 + court cost, no proof of trailer ownership, It goes on & on.

I do appreciate all of the responses received at this point, I hope there will be more. I am at the 20 year mark in a state that requires 30 yrs to retire and I am fried. Dealing with the public is one thing, you expect certain behavior BUT as many of you know, the way you get treated by your own department is what hurts the most. 4 yr degree and military vet means nothing in a well entrenched political good ole boy environment. I saved my money and am looking at getting my CDL. Just wanted to hear what y'all had to say. Again, thanks.

Future Driver, I have 1 MBA, 2 Bach, 2 Associate degrees. Skill & eagle eyes matter here. Point a gun at a truck and yell freeze don't matter here. I will not put you down. I could care less. If you can do the job, that is all that matters to me. 40 tons, your playing with the big boys. You can't call in for back up. Your the boss, like it or not.
