Thanks Injun for that post. That was exactly what I was trying to say in my topic. Put extra cents in so that if I have to fly to China, which is what I will be doing for 1 week during the summer and 3 weeks during the winter, I have the money all stock piled in the account, and just tell them, here it is, take it out every week. As long as they see that the money is there, I doubt that they will have any issue about me going. Of course the truck will be parked in the Columbus Terminal, so this will give them a little more piece of mind.

In general, you can earn better money if you do the truck lease route and you halfway know what you're doing right? (despite these minor lulls and setbacks on a month-to-month basis)
-
That has been my experience thus far. There is, however, more risk involved. You have to weigh risk/rewards and decide if it's the right road for you regardless of the sunshine blown up your arse by recruiters and Psalm-singers.

January is on its way. Are you ready for it?
Major change this year: we no longer contact Rapid Response or our DMs for money transfer from the maintenance account. We do this all over the QC now. I suggest you use Macro 33 to check your maintenance balance now so you will know what your limitation will be.
If you need to transfer money, Macro 33 your request and have the money sent to your settlement. Only transfer what you absolutely need to in order to cover your fixed expenses.
Right now is not the time to p*** away your maintenance reserve on a new home entertainment center you will only see twice a month. Your wife does not need 2 ct diamond earrings for Christmas if you didn't save up for them in some other way. This is a business account, to be used specifically for business purposes. Our critical time of the year is coming up. If you don't have at least $2K in your reserve, you need to up your withholding until you do. Personally, I'm not comfortable without at least $5K in there.
Assess now, save now.DragonTamerBrat and LadyTrucker99 Thank this. -
When did this freight crunch start and how long is it going to last?...I'm worried things were getting good at swift
-
No freight crunch now. It will start after the holidays and usually goes for about four to six weeks. It is an industry wide thing due to a number of factors: Lots of people take time off for the holidays and everybody is in stores buying stuff. After the holidays, nobody has money, so orders from retailers drops. And, everybody realizes they spent too much money for the holidays and comes back out at once. There will be a higher truck to load ratio, rates will drop a little because of the surplus trucks and there will be less freight to go around.
This is a yearly cycle. I am bringing it up now so our folks who pay attention will be more prepared for it.MRTWEETY and DragonTamerBrat Thank this. -

Yeppers. Figured it's time to dig this bone up.
inkeper Thanks this. -
The theory this year is that people are giving each other gift cards instead of actual presents. Those cards get spent in Jan and Feb so freight should level out nicely from now til march. We shall see.
Also would recommend all leased operators to head over to Swift University and watch the Money Maker video put on by AT BS. They will show you how to up your pay by $0.25 cents per mile.
