is there a freightliner fld or classic that doesnt have that problem ? You know to open the door you have to pull and push and wiggle the door while pulling the handle to get it open ?
Is there a fix for it? I find it extremely annoying.

Replace the handle and the striker, lubricate all the moving points.

door hinge might be wore out

Open the door from the outside and pick up on the bottom rear of the door. If you have up and down play, your door hinge needs to be replaced. Like Keith says lube up everything. Start with the door handle where it pivots top and bottom. Also the latch on the door. I use spray white lithium grease. If all that stuff is bone dry start with penetrating oil. I would pull the upholstery and the panel under it and lube all the pivot points in there. Catch the window regulator while you are at it. I carry an oil can and spray lithium grease in the truck and when i'm waiting to load or unload or sitting for the weekend I give that stuff a once over. Take care of that stuff and it will last a long time without the aggravations you are getting now. Pretty sure those screws under the upholstery are torx heads and expect many of them to snap off. Maybe not in the climate you are in. Up north here the road salt and all makes stuff corrode big time.

I took my fdl to a body shop with a new hinge a new door seal and new striker. It took about two hours with two people working on it and the door now works perfectly. this truck is a 1999 fdl condo with 1,090,000. miles on it. It has been short haul for 600,000 miles. It is a pleasure too close the the door with very little pressure and hear the proper click.
icsheeple Thanks this. -
The door locking mechanism is something that needs to be part of your servicing routine. It's just one of those things.
BUT, at least on the fld models, when you have them right the doors close perfectly, and are air tight. -
On the Pete 587, the doors heavy and under supported. At least they were on an '11 I drove for a year. I remember the day one of my companies mechanics realigned and shimmed the drivers door back to factory specs. Night and day difference in regards to ease of open closing and most importantly, wind noise. It's the little things that gripe me the most.

FLD/Classic has way better doors than my Columbia. Easier to work on too.

Thx to all. I got it fixed

How much did it cost?? And how does it look after getting the new hinge installed??
I have rebuilt everything else on the door from the door handle to the window motor.
and if you have problems with the window hitting on the inside of the door as it goes up, you will hear a clunk and it slows down, that's not to hard to fix. Take the door apart remove the window from the door and look at the metal strip at the bottom and you will see it is rusty and the rust swells out the sides to the point it hits.
Take a screw driver and scrape all the rust out of both sides then use large Vice Grips and flatten the strip back out
Then use a piece of carpet or towels lay the window on the ground or me I did it on my flatbed put padding under the glass and the metal strip on cement or metal and gently use a hammer to Finnish getting it flat. Re install the window and it will work good as new. Cost none, time hour to an hour an a half.
