when i am having a bad day i start looking for company trucks with apu's and my day doesnt seem quite so bad. It isnt 1979 i dont eat in the TS so i need a inverter and only my tripack is idling. Nice new T700 just waitin 4u highflight and yes i have read the WHOLE thread
scottied67 Thanks this. -
I was over at my local Ace Hardware store, they had this small swamp cooler thing that only draws 60 watts. You put in a couple gallons of water and at only 60 watts could run it off one of those plug in inverters. It only cools about 40 degrees below ambient temperature, but that along with some fans would keep a driver comfortable except for the most extreme temps. It was about $115 bucks.

I discovered another joy with the idle cut off today. I have three leaker tires from driving in a scrap yard this morning to pick up a load of aluminum. At four hours into my run today they've lost enough air that I decided to top them up. Shut off to open side box to get out my air hose. Get everything hooked up, start the engine and air up the emergency line. Five minute later as I'm slooowwwly airing up the first tire the engine shuts down. So I restart the engine, five minutes later the QC idle shutdown comes on, clutch, a minute later, clutch again. Now I have to wait for the truck idle shutdown warning, a dash light. On the Prostar this takes from a few minutes to as much as 20. Almost an hour later of mostly wasted time I have all of the tires temporarily happy. Almost half of that was waiting to override the idle shutdown.

You only need to clutch once - just after the dash lights come on. (Around 4 min)
Your 'premature' clutches at the qcom warning is resetting the truck shutdown timer.
Edit: listen for the 1st qcom ding, in 30 seconds the dash light come on, clutch -
Doesn't releasing the tractor brakes mitigate the shutdown timer? It used too.

Works like a charm. Thanks tonz.

But there's still another work-around. Lower the landing gear of your trailer, pull your 5th wheel release and slowly pull ahead (leave the pigtail hooked up for sure, but you can remove the red and blue lines optional) just enough to clear the trailer and still be hooked up with the pigtail. Set brakes, jack up the drive axles so the tires are a few inches above the ground. Release brakes and place truck in 1st gear and let it idle all night long.
This is true because we all know that if the truck stays less than 17 miles per hour you can record Off Duty forever.
If you don't feel like jacking the truck up, just crawl under and unhook the universal joint at the drive shaft/transmission and again set in 1st gear and idle all night.Diamondeez, Moosetek13, A21CAV and 2 others Thank this.
