Choose the 5". Unit. Put it on left edge of windshield. 6" is the reg.
The 7" can get you a ticket for blocking the drivers view.

This also states info about dashcam location as well. The new GPS units have dashcam plugs.
Garmin 5". Piss on. Rand GPS.joseph1135 Thanks this. -
#1 this is relating to drive-cams
#2 this mentions nothing about size
#3 this later goes on to note the removal of a lot of previous restrictions
#4 this is 6 years old
and furthermore, WTH hell is up with your infatuation and insistence on "small" GPS units? -
I use both the Garmin 5"Dezl and a RM 520 simultaniously. They both have their quirks and it really shows when you ask both the same question. I really think it is worth it, one might be set to car routing, the other to truck routing, yielding more efficient routing. One might be searching for the next truck stop while the other is keeping me on route.
Totally personal decision as to which is best. Kind of like which brand of beer you drink. -
The new 7" and 5" Garmin come with , wait for it. A dash cam plug. Amazing how that connects to the new GPS.
The fmcsa does changes alot. To get and keep up with the times. Unfortunately some changes are not for the trucking industries well being.
As for my infatuation with small GPS. Driving a semi is not a video game. You don't drive by a GPS screen. The devise is created to assist. Not consume a drivers attention being as they are making larger screens. Most states will allow a percentage of tint on the edge of a windshield, thus blocking a portion. So that being locations if a driver wants to suction cup a mount to the windshield. Now if the driver has a smaller unit, it won't impeed on his sweep of wiper or view of signs andxsignals.
The generation who uses this devise as a" be all final answer" really the wrong attitude to have. Very doubtful the driver who is on the road right now. Has called a shipper/receiver to ask directions. Or best way to enter a facility or drop/pickup location. I cant even begin to count how many drivers I've scene who don't own an atlas.
Being as my credentials are in the computer industry, yes I do know about these devices, as well as giving classes on the operation of GPS units. People have brought in all kinds. So after dealing with a vast majority , my present suggestion is Garmin.
Until Randy McNally has produced a better unit, which I hope they have. I will be reviewing it soon as well.

Take tape measure see how far from bottom of camera go top of windshield. Is it within 6"??
If a cop wants to give you a ticket he pulls out that reg.joseph1135 Thanks this. -
I'm not being the cops. Just pointing out what new tickets are being dragged up. It's a big ### book, if they are wanting $$$$$ they will find it in what ever driver s are doing.
joseph1135 Thanks this. -

I got the 7 and love it. Some issue, is the stupid construction/traffic alert pops up I have to reach over and tap the x to close it
When typing an address, it doesn't ask for what state till after it search around you.
Only twice it crash but it just reboot itself and continue on.
As for dot and cops bothering you, I know wisconsin will ticket you for ANYTHING on the window where the wipers touch.
@joseph1135 , I have the same setup but my radio is on the dash. Never got in trouble yet.
I could mount my gps on the dash if I have tojoseph1135 Thanks this.
