And I think we have our answer now. Randy mcnally recently announced that the TND 750 is being released... so basically the TND 740 is obsolete.. even though I just bought one 4 months ago.
you are good, the email says TND 750 is using brand new 2.0 software as 85, there are some good feedback for the new software here New Rand McNally 85 New Rand McNally TND 85 (Huge Disappointment)
I prefer the interface on the Rand and the mile marker and town name at the bottom are handy. My biggest gripe with the Rand McNally is that their maps are horribly out of date. I can't tell you how many times I've been driving down the road and the Rand McNally says the road there doesn't exist but I'm clearly driving down it. I've had this experience in Georgia, Indiana, Kentucky and a few other states and those are just the ones I can think of off the top of my head. That said I had a Garmin for a few months and just wasn't a fan of the way that it didn't have some of the features on the interface that I was used to. Sold it to a friend and bought another Rand. That said he is quite happy with the Garmin.
Pretty much what I see as well with my current TND 740. The last update I am aware of was in 2018.. two years ago.. so unless an another update is passed, it's only going to get worse as time passes.
I have both and like the RM much better hands down. The Garmin I have seems like a car GPS with a trucker add on..it sucked. The RM is a lot more user friendly. Yes it does stupid stuff occasionally but that's why you gotta watch the signs, especially since there haven't been any updates
