Its a bit like riding a bike you never ever forget once you learn put me in any truck and i'll back it in first time it may "feel " different being in another truck however the principle for backing/reversing is still the same, practice in the long run will improve your reversing skills.

Putting it in gets to be repetitive. And YES, I refer to trucking, y'all's. Not REEFER, but 'refer' ~!!
-
Practice practice practice and don't ever be ashamed to get out and look... I do it all the time and could care less if someone thinks I am a rookie or whatever... If I think I am within 4ft of anything on my blindside's I will GOAL and make sure I will clear it 99% of the time I had it but for that 1% it can save your hide

I have a feeling those tandems are actually too far forward making for a risky overhang. I prefer the old 48 foot spot leaving about 3 or 4 feet overhang to work with.
That far right corner of the trailer will cost you money hitting stuff because you did not get out and examine the situation.
Tight truckstops are a problem. Not for kids or weak minded drivers. -
I didn't back into a truck stop once during my training with Werner. And maybe a time or three at dollar general stores. My trainer waited till I was about to test out before showing me how to setup for a 45.
And some how I made it thru my test out without having to show my backing. The guy said I must be a backing guru if I was on the dollar g account and let me skip that test since the terminal was a bit crowded.
But I didn't give up. When I dropped a trailer at the yard I used it to practice every time unless I had 2 minutes left on my clock or something. If I saw someone give up on a particular spot I'd give it a shot . I avoided stopping in truck stops unless it was wide open for like a month.
To this day I still work on my backing. It sucks when they don't teach us a vital thing, but you can practice on your own and get to a point where you are confident.
Just keep in mind setup is 99% of backing. And get out and look . Look at videos on 45. And pay attention to the area that you are going for. Get out and survey the area. It will give you a better picture instead of truck pov.Last edited: Apr 20, 2017
