In the 18 years I worked night every driver had fancy plans about all this stuff they could do during the day & just taking a nap. Universally, they moved to daytime work at the first opportunity. Before they went to days they whined about being tired all night. The extra income is taxed. The extra income isn't guaranteed.

It's a lot cheaper to get another job than another family.

A friend of mine just got on there. They're definitely hiring. But they're only offering 5-2 schedules for the time being until they get a full complement of drivers hired in.

This man speaks the truth lol. Linehaul is great if you don’t mind the extra mind, body, and soul toll.

Family situation has shifted and, without going into all the details, i need more time off for family and farm stuff.
Feels like all i do is work, eat, and sleep.
Even on off days, I’m buried with stuff i let go through the week that i can’t catch up on.

Well, I think we've all felt that way, eat, work, sleep, sleep if you're lucky. I'm not sure what you expected, it's not often you can combine a trucking job with a real life. A line haul will not solve your problems, in fact, they may make things worse. Line haul is a boring job that usually involves nights, not much variation in routine. A good DAYS sleep is paramount. I tried to "do it all" too, and failed miserably. You have to decide what is more important. You may have to simplify some, but burning the candle at both ends doesn't work. Believe me, we've all tried. Trucking is an all or nothing deal, and rarely time for anything else. Maybe a local job, dump truck, refuse hauling, most of those jobs are done by 3 or 4pm, but to try and mold trucking into a normal life is futile.

If I were in his situation running graveyard would be the last answer to the problem. I would look at construction companies.

Sounds like you need to look at P&D for now and linehaul when you get everything taken care of.
Yeah it won’t be as much money wise, but you’ll see the family more and be able to take care what’s needed.

I guess it all depends. I’m at a small terminal with only two linehaul bids, and the hours are pretty nice (like 8pm to 6:30-7am). If the conditions are good, I keep my board in my personal car and can surf an uncrowded lineup on my way home, or have plenty of time when I get home to workout and go to sleep for 6-7 hours before my wife and kid get home. I still can have dinner with them before I head to work. Yeah, it’s not perfect, but I have more time to do things than I did working days, believe it or not.
